The Vallelunga-Classic 2015 will take place this weekend, March 28-29. It is the continuation of the Imola-Classic from 2012 and 2013 and the Mugello-Classic from last year.
Over two days, a wide variety of races can be followed at the famous Autodromo Vallelunga Piero Taruffi, named after the former Formula 1 driver. The motorsport circuit is located around 30 kilometers north of the Italian capital Rome.
Qualifying sessions will take place on Saturday, with six races scheduled for Sunday.
The program
Around 50 vehicles will take part in the"Classic Endurance Racing" race, divided into two groups. Martin O'Connell, winner in 2012 and 2014, will defend his title at the wheel of a 1971 Chevron B 19 together with Andrew Kirkaldy. A Porsche 917 in the hands of Jürgen Barth, winner of the 1977 24 Hours of Le Mans, will also attract attention. The Italian spectators will be keeping a close eye on their "home-grown" cars, such as a 1971 Alfa Romeo 33, a 1979 Lancia Beta Group A and a 1980 Ferrari 512 BBLM.
There will be five more rounds in the"Heritage Touring Cup" this year and there will also be a new ranking list with a points system. BMW emerged as the favorite from last year's battles, with Philipp and Siggi Brunn's 635 CSI, which once took part in the 1984 and 1985 European Touring Car Championships, standing out in particular. The Rover Vitesse of Richard Postins is another participant to keep an eye on.
The race with the title"Sixties' Endurance" should be particularly gripping. Yvan Mahé, the reigning champion, will be taking part with Dominique Guénat in his 1965 Shelby Cobra. His competitors will be tough, including Raymond Narac and Michel Lecourt, also in a Cobra, who will be challenging him for victory. Jaguar will be fighting against the American dominance with the Da Rocha/Mestrot team, who have entered a 1964 E-Type. Three Porsche 904s will also provide excitement!
One highlight will be the"Trofeo Nastro Rosso", which is reserved for cars of Italian origin. The starting field here includes cars from Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Bizzarrini and Maserati - so you can look forward to some thrilling duels!
