The RM/Sotheby's London auction is one of the European auction highlights every year. On October 24, 2019, 84 cars and a motorcycle (as well as some accessories and automobilia) worth over £ 22 million will go under the hammer in London Olympia.
A quarter of a million per car
Each vehicle (including a motorcycle) is expected to cost £261,059 in London. However, this should not obscure the fact that there are both very expensive and cheap cars among the 85 lots.
Prices of over one million are expected for six cars, and well over 20 cars are expected to sell for five figures.
Ferrari, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz and Aston Martin
Four brands are particularly well represented, not unexpectedly Ferrari (12 cars, plus 1 Dino), Porsche (14 cars), Aston Martin (10) and Mercedes-Benz (9).
All other 21 brands are represented by a handful of cars at most, including exotics such as Chevron, Meyers, Noble, Packard, White and Wiesmann.
Young offer
With an average age of just over 30 years, the vehicle range is very youthful.
Only just two vehicles date from before the war, or rather during the Second World War.
Instead, 26 vehicles represent the neoclassic scene, while a further 22 are youngtimers. Once again, vehicles from the already widely offered "Youngtimer Collection" from Switzerland will also be coming under the hammer in London.
Three cars from the automotive industry
Three gems from Fredy Lienhard's "Autobau" collection are looking for new owners in London. Without exception, they are all racing cars, albeit with a very different focus.
The Porsche 962 C from 1990 took part in exactly two races, starting twice in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. After the end of its racing career, it was restored and has hardly been used since. Now £1 to £1.5 million is set to change hands in exchange for the thoroughbred Group C racing car.
Fredy Lienhard himself raced the Maserati MC12 in the USA. Accordingly, the GT racing car also bears the typical Lista stickers, but the last "scrutineering" stickers are not missing either. With an estimated value of £ 1.8 to 2.3 million, the Maserati is set to be the most expensive car at the auction.
The Ferrari 412 T1 from 1994, once driven by Jean Alesi and Gerhard Berger, is somewhat cheaper but certainly even more exotic. Although it lacks major victories in its history, it presents itself in ready-to-drive condition and complete with the necessary documents. £ 1.4 to 1.8 million is expected for the V12 Ferrari.
The Lamborghini from the barn
Well, it wasn't exactly a barn where a Lamborghini Miura P400 S from 1969 had been awaiting its future for the last few years. But it wasn't an air-conditioned garage either. The yellow mid-engined sports car with chassis number 4245 had two owners in its life, the first until 1974, the second since then. It has never been restored and is practically completely original, including the first engine, according to RM/Sotheby's.
However, some work will be necessary before the next drive, so the estimated value of £800,000 to £1 million is not really a bargain. However, the Miura, like a quarter of the cars overall, is being offered without a reserve price. Anyone hoping to get their hands on a Miura on the cheap will certainly be mistaken, as it is a well-known fact that the opportunity to acquire an unrestored P400 is rare.
Super classic festival
There is certainly no shortage of super classics at RM in London. Starting with an extensive Aston Martin range (with DB2, DB4, DB6, etc.), through classic and modern Ferraris, to two of the most attractive Maserati (3500 GT Spyder Vignale and Ghibli 4.7 Spyder), everything is actually available, including a Jaguar E-Type Series 1.
Special features
There are also a few specialties for sale in Olympia, such as a Wiesmann GT from 2007, a British Noble M600 from 2016 or an American buggy Meyers Manx from 1970.
And for those who would like to go off-road but don't want to do without a Lamborghini V12 engine, there is the LM002. Rotary engine fans can opt for the RX7 from 1994, racing drivers for two Arrows Formula 1 cars or a Jaguar XJR-11.
Depending on your taste, you should either have a few tens of thousands or millions of pounds in your account.
All the cars are of course documented with many pictures on the RM/Sotheby's website.
