RM/Sotheby's will be putting 72 cars, two Ferrari tool sets and a Schumacher photo under the hammer at Motorworld in Munich on November 25, 2023. The 72 vehicles are expected to fetch around EUR 26 million, with an average of EUR 361,528 per car.
A lot of risk
60% of all cars are offered without a reserve price, so bargains are possible here, at least in theory.
The really expensive cars are of course excluded from this, but even a Dino 246 GT from 1973 can be cheaper than its estimate of EUR 300,000 to 350,000.
Young cars
The average age of the vehicles on offer is only 36 years, a third of the cars are not yet youngtimers, 15 of them less than ten years old.
At the other extreme are three pre-war BMW cars, including a BMW 328 Roadster from 1938, which is on offer for EUR 375,000 to 450,000.
BMW and Mercedes-Benz
17 BMWs and 13 Mercedes-Benzes together account for over 40% of the offer. The BMWs are on average 38 years old, the Mercedes-Benzes 45 years old.
They are followed by Porsche with eight and Ferrari with six (including one Dino). Aston Martin and Lamborghini are represented with five cars each, Alfa Romeo with four.
There are not really any unusual brands at RM in Munich, apart from the interesting Boschert 300 Gulling from 1989. This gullwing was built on the basis of a 300 CE Coupé.
The car was exhibited in metallic silver at the IAA Frankfurt in 1989, but was then repainted in Bornit in 1990. It is said to be the only B300 with gullwing doors. Estimated value is EUR 250'000 to 300'000.
M selection
The extensive selection of vehicles from the M division stands out in the BMW range. M1, M3, M3 E30, young Ms - the variety is huge.
It is complemented by a beautifully restored 3.0 CSL from 1973 in the style of the works cars, a 635 CSI Group vA touring car from 1983 and a Z8 from 2001.
The super classics include the 3200 CS from 1963 (EUR 100,000 to 130,000) with Bertone bodywork and the 501 from 1955 as a Baur Cabriolet (EUR 230,000 to 300,000).
Wide range of super classics
There is also a large selection of "blue chips".
Starting with two 1960s Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint (1962) and Giulia 1600 Spider (1963), three Aston Martin from the DB4 to DB6 eras, supplemented by a 1972 DBS V8, a 1959 Corvette, a 1972 Lamborghini Espada, a 1968 Maserati Ghibli and a 1972 Bora as well as various Mercedes-Benz and Porsche, including a 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Touring from 1973 (EUR 450,000 to 550,000), there is plenty to make collectors' hearts beat faster.
The top-class Ferrari classics should not go unmentioned. Among others, a 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spider from 1973 is on offer for EUR 2.35 to 2.65 million and a still young Enzo from 2004 for EUR 3 to 3.5 million.
The development Pagoda
The Mercedes-Benz 230 SL from 1963 on offer has a special history: Fritz Nallinger personally ordered it and it served as a development vehicle with automatic transmission and power steering.
Nallinger also drove the SL privately and meticulously documented its strengths and weaknesses.
Another unusual feature of the car is certainly the original color scheme with orange metallic for the paintwork and turquoise for the interior.
The selection in Munich is large and also includes neo-classic gems such as two Alfa Romeo 8Cs, a Lexus LFA or a BMW 3.0 CSL from 2023, which was built very rarely and, alongside a Nissan GT-R50 ItalDesign from 2021, upholds the tradition of "special bodies", so to speak.
