Instead of the usual annual Rétromobile auction at Place Vaubon, RM/Sotheby's is organizing a live auction in the Corona year 2021 one week after the cancelled classic car fair in Paris. Bids can only be placed online, by phone or in advance; the public will not be present at the auction, which will take place on Saturday, February 13, 2021 from 14:00.
Young contingent
On average, the 41 cars are 34 years old, with some automobiles also coming under the hammer. There is just one pre-war vehicle compared to 15 cars that have not even reached youngtimer age.
Seven Ferrari (incl. 1 Dino) and seven Lamborghini represented the largest contingents, if you don't count the Bowlers and Land Rovers, which are then represented by eight cars.
The pre-war Bentley
One of only 50 factory supercharged Bentley 4 1/2 Liters is offered without an estimated price. The four-seater with chassis MS3938 is said to have retained many of its original components, even though the engine and bodywork were replaced at some point.
At least the original body also comes with the car, which has an extensively documented history.
The Lamborghini collection
If you are looking for a Lamborghini collection, you can buy a considerable number of interesting vehicles in Paris. A 400 GT 2+2 Touring from 1967 (EUR 450,000 to 550,000) represents the early phase, an Islero GTS and an Espada the second phase of the front-engined sports cars. Two Lamborghini Countach and a Miura represent the early mid-engined sports cars, two of which are particularly interesting.
The Lamborghini P400 SV from 1971 belongs to the rare species of 150 SV versions built of the first super sports car from Sant'Agata. Chassis 4840 is estimated at EUR 2.1 to 2.5 million.
Also in red is an early Lamborghini Countach LP400 from 1977 with chassis 1120262, which once belonged to rock musician Rod Stewart, who previously owned three Miura cars. Stewart parked the car in the music studio when he recorded the album "Blonds Have More Fun". EUR 750,000 to 900,000 is now expected to be paid for the "Periscopio".
The golden collection
RM/Sotheby's calls the "Gold Collection" a handful of sports cars, all of which are painted in gold, a little off the beaten track of otherwise preferred colors.
The five cars include two Porsche 911s, a Jensen Interceptor SP from 1973 (EUR 40,000 to 60,000), a Ferrari 308 GTS from 1979 (EUR 80'000 to 110,000) and, as a highlight, one of only three Ferrari 365 GT4 BBs from 1974 painted in "Oro Chiaro", which is expected to fetch EUR 260,000 to 310,000.
The entire collection is offered without a reserve price.
Super exotics
The list of rare and unusual cars at the Paris auction is long, even if you exclude the cars already mentioned.
For example, a Lamborghini Murcilago LP640-4 "Versace" from 2008 is offered for EUR 150,000 to 200,000.
The Bizzarrini P538 from 1979 was, so to speak, a descendant of the famous mid-engined sports car built by the original manufacturer and is now expected to cost EUR 475,000 to 525,000.
The Ascari Ecosse from 1997, the Apollo Gumpert from 2008 and the Spania GTA Spano from 2015 are all super sports cars that were only produced in homeopathic doses. You need a well-filled wallet to purchase all three mid-engined sports cars.
And around 20 examples of the Fiat 600 Rendez Vous were built by Vignale at the end of the 1950s, one of which, which has covered just 460 km since restoration, is now set to find a new owner for EUR 80,000 to 120,000.
Around a third of the cars will be sold without a reserve price, but it is unlikely that the cars will find new owners for significantly less than the EUR 445,000 expected on average.
More information on the individual vehicles and many photos can be found on the RM/Sotheby's website.
