For the first time, RM/Sotheby's is organizing an auction at Cliveden House Hotel, near London. On June 12, 2024, a total of 60 cars and a Lambretta as well as many automobilia with a racing connection will go under the hammer.
The total value of the vehicles is around £22 million, so each car is expected to fetch just over £360,000. 38% of the vehicles will go under the hammer without a reserve price.
Almost exclusively super classics
The 60 cars are divided between 23 brands. Ferrari is most strongly represented with 15 cars, followed by Aston Martin with nine, Bentley with seven and Porsche with four.
All other brands, including vehicle manufacturers that are no longer active, such as Austin, Bristol and Sunbeam, are on site with a maximum of two vehicles.
53 years old on average
While the average age is within the usual range, the Ferraris on offer are on average rather young at 36, the Aston Martins at 35 and the Porsches at just 27 years old.
This is compensated for by Bentley, where the average age is 81, Rolls-Royce at 83 and Austin at 97.
In fact, the youngest Bentley is already 63 years old. And there are several pre-war Bentleys in Le Mans style on offer.
The unusual Lusso
The GTO-style bodywork of the Ferrari 250 GT/L from 1963 with chassis number 4383 is likely to generate some interest. Fantuzzi was inspired by the 330 LMB in 1965 when he adapted the bodywork of the originally silver-colored GT Lusso.
Now the car is expected to find a new owner for £1.1 to 1.5 million, which would mean no premium or even a reduction in value compared to a standard 250 GT/L.
Likeable pre-war classics
For considerably less money, you can buy a 1939 MG TA at Cliveden House.
This one is offered for £18,000 to £26,000, but there is no reserve price.
The two Austin Sevens, a Chummy Tourer from 1924 and a Sallon from 1930, were estimated at £ 6000 to £ 9000.
Scheckter's Giulietta Sprint Veloce
Anyone who missed out on the auction of Jody Scheckter's racing car collection in Monaco can now bid on a road-going Giulietta Sprint Veloce from 1961. The left-hand drive car will go under the hammer for £50,000 to £70,000 with no reserve price.
And with a Porsche tractor, another vehicle from the Scheckter collection will be sold at the very end.
Half a dozen open Astons
There is a large selection of open-top Aston Martins. Two convertibles from the DB4-6 era are to be sold, a DB4 from 1963 and a DB5 from 1965.
Prices in the region of one million are expected here.
The modern open Zagato versions are also expected to be quite expensive.
Specialties
In addition to cars that can be expected at almost every major auction, RM/Sotheby's will also be able to offer some exotic cars.
Examples include an Iso Rivolta Lele, a Facel-Vega Facel II, a Borgward Isabella Coupé or a Bristol 409.
Further information and many pictures of the vehicles can be found on the RM/Sotheby's website.
