The historic Bitmore Hotel in Coral Gables will be the venue for RM/Sotheby's Miami auction on March 1 and 2, 2024. In addition to children's cars and a Ferrari engine test bench, 120 vehicles, including four motorcycles, two boats and an airplane, will go under the hammer.
The vehicles were valued at a total of USD 83.9 million, so almost USD 700,000 is expected per lot. 53% of the vehicle lots will be offered without a reserve price.
One sixth pre-war cars
Although the average age of the 120 vehicles is "only" 46 years, 20 vehicles date from before 1942.
These include some of the most expensive cars in the auction, such as two Duesenberg Model Js, a Mercedes-Benz 770 K Pullman Cabriolet with Voll & Ruhrbeck bodywork from 1930 and a Cadillac V-16 Fleetwood Roadster from 1930.
M3 Potpurri
Nine BMWs are being offered by RM/Sotheby's, on average they are just over 32 years old.
In addition to an M1 from 1981 and a 3.0 CS from 1972, it is above all several M3 variants that arouse interest.
Four of them are E30 models and none are expected to cost less than USD 150,000. But maybe they will be cheaper because 8 of the 9 BMWs are sold without a minimum price.
Ferrari with 20 cars
Ferrari will be most strongly represented in Miami, with 20 cars or a sixth of all vehicles coming from Maranello. On average, they are only 27 years old, but this does not prevent them from seeking a new owner for seven-figure sums.
A 250 Europa with Vignale bodywork from 1953 is expected to be the most expensive, estimated at USD 4.5 to 5.5 million.
A 365 California Spider from 1967 is expected to be only slightly cheaper, with an estimate of USD 4 to 4.5 million.
USD 2.8 to 3.4 million was set aside for a 1990 F40, but Ferrari owners in Miami can (presumably) also become owners for as little as USD 125,000, as a 1999 355 F1 Spider is expected to cost at least that much.
The Porsche Carrera 6 by Sepp Greger
The Porsche brand is also well represented in Miami with as many as 13 vehicles, the same number as Mercedes-Benz.
The Porsches are on average 32 years young and are expected to cost an average of USD 760,000. This is not least due to the red Carrera 6 on offer from 1966, chassis 906-127, which was driven by Sepp Greger in the European Hill Climb Championship. The car, which was delivered in silver, was responsible for 10 victories. Now it is said to cost USD 1.8 to 2.2 million.
The amount of money that changes hands for the purchase of a 2005 Carrera GT is said to be only slightly less, and two restomod cars from Singer and Werk are also offered as million-dollar values.
Lamborghini for the connoisseur
Five Lambos are looking for new owners.
Among them are an early 350 GT aluminum coupé, three Countach from different eras and a Diablo VT from 1994.
There will be no shortage of super classics in Miami, as the lot list also includes a Maserati Sebring, several Mercedes-Benz SL models, two Shelby Cobras, one Honda and one Acura NSX, two Aston Martin DB models and two Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Speciale as well as a 6C 2500 Super Sport Villa d'Este from 1950.
For people with special tastes, the Mercedes-Benz 300 TE 6.0 AMG from 1988 might be worth a second look. Few cars from that era could carry seven people so quickly, thanks to the V8 from the S-Class and a few other AMG tweaks. However, USD 300,000 to 400,000 is no small price to pay for this fast truck. Five other AMG models and a 190E 2.5-16 Evo 2 will also go under the hammer ...
