The Grimaldi Forum will be the center of one of the most interesting auctions of 2024. RM/Sotheby's will bring 108 vehicles and some automobilia worth over EUR 62 million under the hammer over two days. Each vehicle, including a Vespa, is expected to fetch EUR 577,106.
49% of the vehicle lots will be sold without a reserve price. 20 vehicles were valued at seven figures.
11 Formula 1 cars, eight rally cars, seven other racing cars and, in particular, 63 super classics make up the bulk of the range.
Ferrari is represented with 15 cars, Porsche with 12, Aston Martin with 11, Alfa Romeo with eight and Lancia with seven. They are followed by Rolls-Royce (6), McLaren (5) and Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz (4 each).
The collection of F1 racing driver Jody Scheckter
The auction of the racing car collection of former F1 world champion Jody Scheckter will cause quite a stir on the second day.
The jewel in the crown will be the Ferrari 312 T4 from 1979, in which Scheckter drove to no less than three victories. RM gives an estimate of EUR 5.25 to 6.5 million.
It will be exciting to see how much the six-wheeled Tyrrell P34, rebuilt on a replacement chassis in the 2000s and estimated at EUR 450,000 to 750,000, will be bid up to.
Scheckter fans will also be looking at the Tyrrell 007 and especially the Wolf WR1 from 1977, which is listed in the catalog at EUR 450,000 to 650,000.
In addition to these F1 cars, there are also three McLaren, two Merlyn, a Trojan and a Trojan as formula cars up for auction.
There is also an Alfa Romeo Giulietta SZ with double Targa Florio history, estimated at EUR 320,000 to 450,000.
Two special Porsche racing cars
In 1981, the Porsche 917 experienced a renaissance at Le Mans. Kremer built the 917 K-81 with the help of Porsche to win the 24 Hours.
However, this was not successful, but the car is certainly one of the more beautiful prototypes and is now expected to find a new owner for EUR 3.5 to 5 million.
Two Swiss drivers drove the Porsche 934 with chassis number 9306700172 in the 1978 to 1980 seasons, after the car had previously competed in the German Racing Championship. Today, the Porsche has been restored and is expected to fetch EUR 750,000 to 900,000.
Rally cars
Several rally cars will be vying for buyers in Monaco, including a Renault 5 Turbo Group 4 from 1982 (EUR 200,000 to 250,000), an Audi Sport quattro S1 E2 from 1985 (EUR 500,000 to 700,000), a Lancia Delta S4 Rally from 1985 (EUR 800,000 to 1 million) and one of the works Mercedes-Benz 450 SLC 5.0 from 1979 (EUR 800,000 to 1 million).
More than half super classics
More than half of the cars on offer can be categorized as super classics.
This certainly applies to the open-top Ferrari sports cars, of which there are three particularly rare examples for sale, namely a 250 GT Cabriolet from 1958 (EUR 4.5 to 5 million), a 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spider from 1972 (EUR 2.8 to 3.2 million) and a 250 GT Cabriolet Series II from 1959 (EUR 1 to 1.2 million).
The super classics naturally also include the Siata 208 S Spider Motto from 1953 (EUR 2.1 to 2.5 million), the Ferrari 250 GT Lusso from 1962 (EUR 1.5 to 1.75 million) and the Porsche 356 Carrera 1500 GS Speedster from 1955 (EUR 850,000 to 950,000).
Also up for auction is a Bizzarrini 5300 GT Strada with aluminum body from 1967 (EUR 750,000 to 850,000) or a Lamborghini Countach 5000 QV from 1988 (EUR 400,000 to 500,000).
The BMW M1 from 1981 (EUR 400,000 to 500,000) and the Lancia Stratos HF Stradale from 1975 (EUR 550,000 to 650,000) are also sought-after classics. And the list goes on and on.
Cars with work
In addition to the high-gloss gems, there are also quite a number of classics that are still calling out for extensive work, some in unrestored condition, waiting to be brought back to life.
Whether you would like to invest your craftsmanship in a Porsche 911 S, an Aston Martin DB4, a Ferrari 330 GT 2+2, a Bentley S2 Continental or a Mercedes-Benz 170 S Cabriolet A, the selection of restoration objects is extensive.
Few affordable cars
You don't necessarily have to invest a six-figure sum at RM, some cars will also be available at significantly lower prices.
A Pininfarina Spidereuropa from 1983 is expected to fetch EUR 20,000 to 30,000, an Alfa Romeo Giulietta Berlina TI from 1957 EUR 30,000 to 40,000 and a Lancia Fulvia 1.6 HF from 1969 EUR 50,000 to 70,000.
There are also almost two dozen young cars for sale that date from the current millennium, although the average age of the cars is just under 44 years.
The selection is exciting, more information and photos can be found on the RM/Sotheby's website.
