On October 31, 2026, in the run-up to the London-to-Brighton Run, RM Sotheby’s will auction 61 vehicles—including two buses—along with a few pieces of memorabilia in London. The vehicles have been estimated at approximately £40.4 million, so each vehicle is expected to fetch around £662,000.
41% will be auctioned without a reserve price, including an Aston Martin DB5 Convertible.
London-Brighton Contenders
RM Sotheby’s is offering four vehicles built before 1904—and thus potential London-Brighton candidates—three of which have also participated in previous editions of the popular classic car rally.
Among them is an 1899 Locomobile Type 1 “Style 1” Spindle-Seat Runabout, which could secure an early starting position. A bid of £40,000 to 50,000 is enough to get in the running.
In 2011, the 1901 Milwaukee 7 HP Steam Racer participated in the Veteran Run; it is now expected to fetch £40,000 to 60,000.
The 1903 Clément AC4R 12/16 HP Rear-Entrance Tonneau is expected to fetch a significantly higher price. Estimates for this certainly not slow open-top turn-of-the-century classic range from £350,000 to 450,000; after all, the car has already been featured at the Pebble Beach Concours.
The MMC 8 HP Rear-Entrance Tonneau from around 1904 has not yet participated in a Veteran Run, but it has appeared in the two films “Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines” and “Half a Sixpence.” Now, it’s expected to change hands for between £50,000 and 70,000.
Pre-War Classics
In addition to the very old cars already mentioned, nine more pre-war classic cars will go under the hammer in London.
The range extends from a 1923 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost Tilbury Saloon by Willoughby, estimated at £30,000 to 60,000, to the 1931 Invicta 4½-Liter S-Type “Low Chassis” Sports by Vanden Plas from 1931, priced at £450,000 to 650,000.
However, the most expensive car in this group is expected to be the 1914 Rolls-Royce 40/50 HP Silver Ghost London-to-Edinburgh Skiff in the style of Labourdette, estimated at £600,000 to 900,000.
Significantly more affordable, but perhaps also more fun to drive, are the two Fiat 508 S Balilla Coppa d’Oro models on offer, built in 1934 and 1935. They are both expected to sell for between £60,000 and £90,000 each.
Microcars
RM Sotheby’s in London is also offering two rare microcars.
Only 28 Lightburn Zeta Sports were built in Australia. The convertible on offer has chassis number 2871 and remained unsold until 1964. Now, the Lightburn—powered by a Fichtel & Sachs two-cylinder engine—is estimated to be worth between £25,000 and £35,000.
A similar price range is also expected for the equally rare 1959 Frisky Family Three. The charming three-wheeled coupé—which is sure to be a crowd favorite at any event—is expected to fetch between £20,000 and £30,000.
Replicas
Not only originals, but also well-made replicas will go up for auction on October 31, 2026, at RM Sotheby’s.
The lineup includes a 1967 Jaguar XKSS (£180,000 to 240,000) and a 1953 Jaguar C-Type, built by Brazell Engineering and estimated at £180,000 to 240,000.
Those who prefer pre-war cars might be interested in the 1953 Bentley B Special “Blue Train” Recreation by Racing Green, which is expected to change hands for £370,000 to 430,000.
Ferrari’s Large Selection
With 21 cars (including a Dino 246 GTS), Ferrari has the largest contingent of any brand in London. Bentley follows with six cars, while all other manufacturers are represented by a maximum of three cars.
The highlights of the Ferrari lineup include a 1965 275 GTS, a 1965 275 GTB with an aluminum body, a 1964 250 GT Lusso, and a 1988 F40.
Superclassics
Of course, London also has no shortage of super classics outside the Ferrari lineup.
Notable examples include a 1964 Aston Martin DB5 Convertible, a 1954 Bentley R-Type Continental Fastback, the Lamborghini models Diablo SE30 and Murciélago Roadster, a 1963 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster (£1.1 to 1.3 million), or a 2004 Porsche Carrera GT (£2 to 2.5 million).
Senna’s NSX
The 1991 Honda NSX, which once served as Ayrton Senna’s company car in Portugal, is likely to attract a great deal of interest.
With an estimated price of £500,000 to 800,000, the mid-engine sports car with chassis number T000233, which was delivered largely in standard configuration and now has just over 63,000 km on the odometer, is expected to fetch a significantly higher price than other examples.
An entry-level classic?
In addition to the many expensive cars, RM Sotheby’s also offers more affordable classics.
Take, for example, a 1998 Honda Integra Type R, which is looking for a new owner for between £20,000 and £30,000. For £30,000 to 50,000, you can get behind the wheel of a 2003 VW Golf R32 with a manual transmission and right-hand drive.
The 1989 right-hand-drive BMW M5 E34 is expected to cost between £45,000 and £55,000.
Youngtimers
No fewer than 15 cars in the auction haven’t even reached “youngtimer” age yet.
The most expensive car in the auction, a 2022 Ferrari Daytona SP3 (7.5 to 9.5 million pounds), is also among them, along with several other young Ferraris.
Also on offer are a 2007 Mercedes-Benz SLR “McLaren Edition” from 2007 and a Porsche 911 GT3 RS 3.8 from 2011, as well as a McLaren 720S Spider from 2019 and an Aston Martin Valkyrie Coupé from 2023, will go under the hammer.
The selection is diverse; it’s worth noting that, especially with classic cars, the steering wheel is often on the right—which makes sense for a Jaguar XK 120 but feels rather unusual in a Ferrari Daytona. A look at RM Sotheby’s online catalog shows the cockpit configuration for each car and reveals extensive documentation on the individual vehicles.
