RM/Sotheby's is bringing a total of 76 lots under the hammer virtually in the "Open Roads June" online-only format from June 23 to 30, 2021. Once again, the 52 cars and one motorcycle come from various countries, including the USA, Canada, Switzerland, Germany and Italy.
On average, the vehicles are just over 45 years old, plus some automobilia such as a tool set for the Ferrari 275 GTB, rims or racing posters.
The total value of the vehicles is USD 6.2 million, so an average of USD 116,826 is expected per lot. 15 percent of the cars will be offered without a reserve price. In terms of currencies (and thus origin), the American dollar dominates with 34 vehicles, followed by the euro with 13 and the CHF with six vehicles.
High-priced
Two younger Porsches are at the top of the list in terms of value.
There is a 918 "Weissach" Spyder from 2015, which wants to be worth EUR 950,000 to 1.15 million. Buyers can also purchase an engine block separately at auction.
The Porsche 959 comfort model from 1987, which is looking for a new owner for EUR 725,000 to 825,000, is already a classic car.
The other cars are significantly lower, which also explains the comparatively low average value of USD 117,000. Only 15 percent of the vehicles on offer are offered without a minimum price.
Exotic cars
The offer is diverse. Let's start with some exotic cars. There is a Fiat Ritmo 60 CL from 1978, for example, which has only covered 19,279 km in its life.
The fact that it is the low-power 1.1-liter version of all things and also has an unusual color scheme makes the Ritmo a very special offer. EUR 10,000 to 15,000 is the asking price, but the car will also be sold at a lower price.
Built by the same manufacturer, but much rarer, the Fiat 131 Abarth from 1976 is one of the extremely rare vehicles. The evolution version for rally sport as a Stradale was estimated at CHF 95,000 to 150,000.
A third Fiat is called 1100 TV Desirée. It was built in 1956 and was presented by Vignale at the 1956 Turin Motor Show. The lines were designed by Michelotti and the car shown in Amelia Island in 2018, which is located in Bremen, even comes with two complete sets of wheels (steel rims or Borrani spoke wheels). EUR 60,000 to 80,000 doesn't seem that expensive for a Concours car from a master craftsman.
The Lamborghini Urraco P250 was the most-built Urraco, but only 520 of them were produced. The mid-engined sports car with its transverse eight-cylinder engine is correspondingly exotic. The red US example from 1975 was valued by RM at USD 150,000 to 175,000.
The Isuzu 117 XE Coupé from 1975 is one of those Japanese cars that hardly anyone knows about. The car was designed entirely by Giugiaro and the first examples were shown in 1968. Only a few made it abroad; the model located in the USA was priced at USD 30,000 to 35,000.
The Irwin Manx looks like a Meyers Manx, but comes from Canada. The 1968 buggy on offer was estimated at USD 30,000 to 40,000.
The Qvale Mangusta, designed by Marcello Gandini, is considerably younger and features a very special roof construction. Fewer than 300 examples were built from the 1990s onwards. The car on offer with a 320 hp Ford engine is expected to cost USD 38,000 to 42,000.
The Byers SR-100 Roadster is one of the most beautifully designed American small-series sports cars. Jim Byers designed the plastic body, which sits on a Ford chassis in combination with a Chevrolet V8 engine in the 1956 model on offer. USD 60,000 to 70,000 is being asked for this car, which is probably one of less than a dozen survivors. It also won in its class at Amelia Island in 2010.
Classic
There is also no shortage of sought-after classics in the June online auction.
Whether Alfa Romeo Giulia 1600 Sprint Speciale from 1965, Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2-Litre Roadster from 1968 or Audi quattro from 1968, the lot list includes some of these cars frequently offered at auctions.
Old
The selection of pre-war vehicles is clearly arranged, as there are exactly four cars.
The oldest car is a Milburn Electric Model 27L Brougham from 1921, similar in construction to the better-known Detroit Electric. The batteries are probably gone and according to RM the car needs a simpler restoration. Nevertheless, the 24-volt motor is still running, so the USD 40,000 to 50,000 for an electric car that is exactly a hundred years old is perhaps also okay.
The Milburn is joined by a 1932 Buick Series 50 Sport Phaeton, an elegant 1938 SS 100 Jaguar with a 2.5-liter engine from Switzerland (CHF 250,000 to 300,000) and a pretty 1939 Steyr 220 Cabriolet (USD 70,000 to 80,000), which is located in the USA.
More recent
11 vehicles on offer were built after the year 2000.
The cars range from the Audi TT to the Honda S800, a Honda NSX T, a Ferrari F12 berlinetta TdF from 2015 and the Aston Martin DB9. Incidentally, the early Audi TT Coupé from 2000 with a 1.8-liter turbo engine and just 26,335 km on the clock was a Swiss delivery and is now expected to fetch EUR 17,500 to EUR 27,500, but a bargain is possible due to the lack of a minimum price.
As always, you can find out more about the individual vehicles and see lots of photos on the RM/Sotheby's website.
