In cooperation with the Porsche Museum, Franzis Verlag presents a technical legend for car fans in general and for Porsche enthusiasts in particular: the 6-cylinder boxer engine of the 1966 Porsche 911 as a 1:4 scale kit. The screwed and plugged-in functional model makes the heart of the original 911 tangible and a special personal experience.
The start of a legend
The design of the Porsche 911 with its 6-cylinder boxer engine is closely interwoven with the history of Porsche AG. The 130 hp engine with a displacement of 2 liters and one overhead camshaft driven by a timing chain per cylinder bank was the initial spark for the unique success story of the legendary sports cars from Zuffenhausen.
Transparent functional kit with moving engine components
The high-quality kit was created based on original drawings and consists of 290 individual parts, some of which are movable. The plastic components are screwed or plugged together for assembly and guarantee a pleasant model-building experience - without any gluing.
The crankshaft, pistons and valves move in true-to-life interaction. The transparent housing parts allow the mechanics of the boxer engine to be seen and understood from the outside. Even the ignition sparks in the cylinders are simulated with LEDs.
Exciting background information on history and technology
The accompanying, richly illustrated booklet guides you safely through the two to three-hour assembly of the model. Created in cooperation with the Porsche Museum, the book presents the background to the creation and continuous development of the 911 engine in series production and racing in an entertaining and concise way. The contents are excitingly illustrated with a large number of historical photos, drawings and posters from the Porsche archive.
The kit of the Porsche 6-cylinder boxer engine, which is certainly also suitable as a gift, is now available for 169 euros (recommended retail price, currently around 15% cheaper on Amazon) and can be purchased online at amazon.de or from the publisher.
