It often takes years for a new Porsche model to go from the first drawing board studies to the test drive. However, what is worked out behind closed doors does not always make it onto the road. Prototypes, studies and research vehicles from past decades can be marveled at in the special exhibition "Project: Secret!", with which the Porsche Museum is making a guest appearance at Retro Classics 2015.
Highest security level
If a car does not make it into production, the developers still gain knowledge. This data is archived as important company capital and is often used later for other vehicle types. The highest level of security therefore prevails at the development center in Weissach. With a few exceptions, most of the study and development vehicles are scrapped once the project has been completed.
A look behind the scenes
The Porsche special show at Retro Classics thus offers a unique look behind the scenes - with exhibits from the museum's collection that are being shown at a trade fair for the first time.
A vehicle study from 1973, for example, with which Porsche wanted to react to the changing environmental conditions of industrial society: The study from the "long-term car research project", known internally as the"Type 1989", impressed with its clean eco-balance and maximum sustainability. Produced in a resource-saving manner, the vehicle was designed for a service life of 20 years and a mileage of at least 300,000 kilometers. It was never built.
