Inspired by Max Hoffman
The Speedster was introduced in late 1954, in part at the initiative of the influential American importer Max Hoffman, who not only introduced many European models but also inspired manufacturers to create nearly as many. The term “Pre-A” is used today to refer to those Porsche 356s built before the introduction of the 356 A in September 1955. Only 1,234 examples of this early Speedster generation were produced.
