From May 26 to 28, 2017, a pan-European conference for automobile historians will take place for the first time. The French National Automobile Museum (Cité de l'Automobile - Musée National de l' Automobile) in Mulhouse in Alsace, on the border between France, Germany and Switzerland, so to speak, has been chosen as the conference venue.
The organizers of the conference are the AHG (Automobilhistorische Gesellschaft e.V.) from Germany and the SAHB (Society of Automotive Historians in Britain) from Great Britain, who of course also welcome members of other associations, such as AHA (Australia), AISA (Italy), CONAM (Netherlands), UIA (Serbia) or SAH (USA).
The program is not yet fully defined, but it will start on Friday with the arrival and welcome as well as a dinner (at own expense), while on Saturday there will be lectures on the program, which will continue until early Sunday. Meals are included between the lectures and the expected cost per participant (excluding hotel) is approximately EUR 100.00 per person. And of course the attractive museum can also be visited.
A provisional reservation for a hotel in Mulhouse has also been made (Hotel Bristol). The provisional cost for two nights with breakfast, from Friday to Sunday, for two people in a double room, is € 172.00. Single rooms cost € 150.00 for the two nights. Additional nights can be booked. You must book and pay for your own accommodation.
You can expect to hear a lot of exciting reports and extensive aspects of the old automobile during these two days. Announced lectures (the program is still changing) deal with topics such as "European Co-operation in a Difficult Time - Spyker and Maybach" (Frans Alkemade), "Personal Experiences Relating to the Decline of the British-Owned Motor Industry" (Christopher Balfour), "The last Bugattis from Molsheim 1943-1963" (John Barton), "Do we need more Science in Automatotive History Research?" (Stefan Dierkes), "The 1950 F1 World Championship" (Guy Loveridge), "Aesthetics and Design of Motoring Books) (Frederik Scherer), "History, materials and technology of car paintwork" (Gundula Tutt), "Vincenzo Florio and the origins of the Targa Florio" (Giuseppe Valenza) or "Making their Marques - Historic radiator emblems" (Claus Wulff).
Further information can be found on the AHG website.
