The Opel brand is now celebrating its 120th birthday. To mark the occasion, PS.Speicher is organizing a special exhibition entitled "Opel - of cadets and captains". This exhibition shows the development of the Opel brand from its beginnings to the present day. The exhibition is not just a purely theoretical tour through history. Parallel to the theory, various exhibits from Opel's history will also be live on site. The exhibition will open to the public on December 18, 2019.
A passion for the automobile for 120 years
This year, the Opel brand can look back on 120 years of history as an automobile manufacturer. PS.Speicher in Einbeck is marking this anniversary with the new special exhibition "Opel - of cadets and captains" and will be showing carefully selected treasures from its depots in the PS.Forum from December 18. The exhibition, which was realized with the financial support of the regional Opel car dealership Siebrecht, was opened in the presence of invited guests and the mayor of the city of Einbeck, Dr. Sabine Michalek, Opel Director of Major and Commercial Customers Wolfgang Stahl and the donor couple Gabriele and Karl-Heinz Rehkopf.
First success with sewing machines and bicycles
Opel's success story does not begin with the production of cars or motorcycles - but with sewing machines in a small locksmith's workshop in Rüsselsheim in 1862. Opel started producing bicycles in 1886 and became the world's largest bicycle manufacturer in the 1920s. In addition to the 14 four-wheeled classic cars on display, there are also three two-wheeled exhibits and an original Opel sewing machine. The special exhibition "Opel - Of Cadets and Captains" thus shows the full diversity of the traditional brand from Rüsselsheim.
From cadets and admirals ...
The oldest car in the new depot exhibition at the PS.Forum is an Opel 10/25 from 1912. An Admiral Cabriolet from 1939 impresses not only with its spectacular design, but also with its size: the elegant car measures almost 5.30 meters from the top of the radiator to the rear fender.
More than 30 years later, coachbuilder Deutsch designed another dream car with Rüsselsheim genes, the Record Cabriolet. This vehicle can also be found in the special exhibition - together with the eponymous Kadett and Admiral models, of course, as well as an example of the pre-war mass-produced P4 model. Fans of historic commercial vehicles will also get their money's worth when they see an Opel Blitz 3.6 to - as will fans of sporty cars: the exhibition organizers are presenting two true Opel legends for them in the PS.Speicher with the GT and the Manta.
"I am delighted that we at Opel and Autohaus Siebrecht can contribute to the diversity of this location and that our brand will be of interest to guests for a few months in this beautiful building," summarized Wolfgang Stahl, Director of Large and Commercial Customers at Opel Automobile GmbH.
The special exhibition "Treasures from the Depot: Opel - Of Cadets and Captains" will be open to the public from December 18, 2019 during the regular opening hours of PS.Speicher.
