The time of the racing break at the Nürburgring is coming to an end: After testing and driving operations at the traditional circuit have already resumed in recent weeks, the authorities have now granted permission to hold the first motorsport competitions.
At the end of June, the Nürburgring Endurance Series will kick off with real racing at the Ring again and the organizers of the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix are also optimistic that the 48th edition of the biggest classic race in continental Europe can be held on the planned date: As things stand at present, fans of historic racing can therefore mark August 7 to 9 thickly in their calendars.
Protection concept and adapted program
Despite all the optimism, it is also clear that the concept for the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix has to be fundamentally revised due to the special circumstances of the coronavirus/Covid-19 pandemic. Together with the partners from the Nürburgring, the organizers are therefore now working flat out on an approvable concept.
In addition to the conditions under which the weekend can be held, there are numerous other detailed regulations to be found. Above all, this includes the reorganization of the sporting framework conditions, from technical scrutineering to the various tasks of race control and the marshals around the track: practicable hygiene concepts must be developed for all these areas.
Despite the extensive tasks, the most important key points are currently expected to be finalized by the beginning of July 2020.
Only after this date can the race program really be finalized. Nevertheless, there are individual points that will be given priority. These include the organization of the AvD Historic Marathon, which is set to celebrate its revival this year. The organizers will provide up-to-date information on current developments and news.
Further information can be found continuously on the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix website.
