As part of the Swiss Classic World in Lucerne, the Toffen Classic Car Gallery is auctioning off a total of 42 old and young classic cars with a total value of 3.3 million francs on May 28, 2022. The average estimated price of the cars, which are on average 52 years old, is therefore just under 80,000 francs. Just over a third of them (16 units) are being offered without a reserve price. The range of collector's items under 30 years old is comparatively small with just six vehicles. The same applies to the pre-war range with just four cars.
Stuttgart numerous and expensive
The most frequently represented brand is Mercedes-Benz (6 cars), followed by MG (4). Cadillac, Jaguar and Porsche share third place with three cars each. With a McLaren SLR 722, Mercedes-Benz is also the most expensive lot at the auction: between CHF 650,000 and 750,000 is expected for the gray coupé with red interior.
The cheapest offer is a VW Beetle from 1973 for just CHF 15,000 to 18,000 with no reserve price. One year younger is the VW Transporter for CHF 22,000 to 26,000, which is special in that most of the T2s still in existence today are window vans and not panel vans.
The age limits are marked by a 1934 Bentley 3 1/2 Litre Derby Drophead Coupé (CHF 130,000 to 150,000) and a 2017 Aston Martin Vantage GT8 (CHF 180,000 to 220,000).
Red roadsters
A very early convertible version of each of two popular English classics is offered in red: the 1963 MGB with "pull handle" door handles is the cheaper of the two at CHF 20,000 to 25,000. The 1961 Jaguar E-Type with "flat floor" is offered for CHF 165,000 to 185,000, which looks comparatively inexpensive in view of other auction results, e.g. in the USA.
Rare in this country is the 1967 Dodge Coronet R/T 440, a bright yellow two-door car that is expected to fetch CHF 45,000 to 55,000. Chevrolet Corvettes from the first two years of production are also rare in Europe. An example from 1954 in typical "Polo White" is being offered without a limit for CHF 75,000 to 85,000.
German V8 saloons from the seventies are available as a double pack in the form of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3 and 450 SEL 6.9. The two green benches are expected to fetch CHF 60,000 to 70,000 and CHF 30,000 to 35,000 respectively.
The auction vehicles can be previewed at the Swiss Classic World in Lucerne on May 26-28, 2022. The auction will begin on Saturday, May 28, at 5:00 pm in the exhibition hall. Further information and the auction catalog can be found on the website of the Oldtimer Galerie Toffen.
