The Ferrari F40

The undisputed highlight of the auction is likely to be the Ferrari F40 from 1990. The mid-engine sports car with 478 hp and a very healthy appearance was estimated by Reinhard Schmidlin's team at CHF 1.2 to 1.4 million.

The F40 is one of six cars on offer from Maranello. In addition to two classic Gran Turismo cars from the 1960s - the 250 GTE from 1962 and the 330 GT 2+2 from 1965 - there are three Dino six-cylinder sports cars up for auction, a 246 GT from 1973, a 246 GTS from 1974 and a 308 GT/4.

Swiss bodies

With the Alvis TD 21 Graber Special from 1962, the Hotchkiss with Worblaufen bodywork from 1950 and the Alfa Romeo 1900 C Super Sprint from Ghia-Aigle from 1957, three vehicles with special Swiss bodywork are united on the Dolder ice rink. At CHF 75,000 to 85,000, the beautiful yellow Merak 3000 SS from 1977 forms the starting point, but also the Mistral 4000 from 1964 (CHF 95,000 to 125,000), the Bora 4.9 from 1973 (CHF 175,000 to 185,000) and the 3500 GTI Touring from 1965 (CHF 185,000 to 205,000) also offer a lot for the money. If you are looking for a more affordable Lancia entry-level model, the Flaminia 3C 2800 SuperSport Zagato from 1966 is one of the few coupés with a steel body. It is expected to fetch between CHF 275,000 and 325,000.

The mid-engined car prepared for rally participation is a fun-to-drive car in a class of its own and certainly not overpriced at CHF 65,000 to 75,000. The same applies to the Riley 1.5 Litre Brooklands Special from 1938 or the special Salmson GS Torpédo from 1929.

American fans should perhaps take a second look at the 1967 Mercury Cougar or the 1957 Ford Thunderbird, as well as the 1965 Chevrolet Corvette 327, all of which were reasonably priced.
