You read that right: there are not only world-class ski and mountain bike championships on the Heide. Every year, the engines of the rarest and most extraordinary historic racing and sports cars also start on the highest circuit in the world! The race is not for victory and honor, but in competition mode - much to the delight of the tens of thousands of spectators from all parts of Switzerland and nearby countries. The big and small cars live up to their sporting character and race around the 2.5-kilometer circuit at breakneck speed. Safety is and remains the top priority, however, and professional track management ensures the necessary protective measures are in place.
The anniversary edition of the Lenzerheide Motor Classics will take place this year from June 2 to 4 and has become an integral part of the motorsport event scene.
The event has its origins in the first national hill climb after the Second World War, which led from Tiefencastel to Lenzerheide in 1951. The last race, the Swiss Grand Prix, took place in 1957 as part of the European Championships. Prominent drivers competed in racing cars that can still be admired today at the Lenzerheide Motor Classics, including the Porsche 356 Carrera, MGA, Mercedes-Benz 300 SL and Aston Martin DB2. But the smaller classes under 1000 cc were also represented, for example with the fast and agile Fiat-Abarth Zagato of a racing team from Turin.
The highly committed Lenzerheide Motor Classics association, which is supported by many enthusiasts, offers participants and spectators a special kind of experience every year: the highly endowed racing fields include two-, three- and four-wheeled gems from all eras of motorsport history: from the archaic pre-war era to the racing-historically dynamic post-war eras of the '50s and '60s to the racers of the '80s, which have enjoyed increasing popularity in recent years, especially among the younger generation.
In addition to the brilliant racing action, there will also be a top-class supporting program. Rides in racing cabs or historic post buses are just some of the numerous attractions. Following last year's magnificent performance by the Patrouille Suisse, the highlight of this year's event will be the Swiss Army's "Super Puma Display Team", which will put on a unique show and prove that breathtaking action is not only possible on the ground, but also in the air!
Visit the Lenzerheide Motor Classics and you will be captivated by the unique racing atmosphere, the exciting paddock, a great supporting program and numerous exceptional vehicles!
