The current special exhibition at the Pantheon Basel, ZagatoSwiss, is making a name for itself and making waves. Other prominent members have joined the unique family reunion - the Alfa Romeo TZ cars. T for Tubolare, tubular frame chassis, Z for Zagato, a combination as fast as it is elegant.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ Coupé Zagato from 1964 with chassis number 18. is blue and was used by SOFAR "Société Française Alfa Romeo" as a racing car. The car, retrospectively called TZ1, has been privately owned in Switzerland since 1987.
In contrast to the TZ1, the Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ2 from 1966 has a plastic skin. The TZ2, a further development of the TZ1, was also built exclusively for racing. The red TZ2 on display was involved in an accident at the Targa Florio in Sicily. It was rebuilt using original parts and has been privately owned since 1997.
And then there is the Alfa Romeo TZ3 Corsa Coupé Zagato from 2010, a one-off with a modified 8-Cilindri engine, carbon chassis, aluminum body and racing technology, which was created out of the desire to reinterpret the Zagato shapes of the 1960s. The TZ3 Corsa was first shown at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este 2010 and is privately owned.
Finally, there is the Alfa Romeo TZ3 Stradale Coupé Zagato from 2013. The yellow TZ3 Stradale on display is the third of a total of nine vehicles produced - it is the only one in yellow. Its tubular frame chassis is encased in a carbon body and it is powered by the 8.4-liter V10 engine from the Dodge Viper ACR. The car is privately owned.
The four coupés will remain at the Pantheon until the end of the exhibition. It is therefore worth visiting again, even if you have already visited the Zagato exhibition once.
The exhibition is open until April 17, 2017 from Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 17:30 and Sat/Sun from 10:00 to 16:30. The entrance fee is CHF 10.00.
