Powerful engines, fast cars, legendary history. The era of the so-called muscle cars lasted just seven years - but the models are still fascinating today. Even the film series "The Fast and the Furious" and numerous other Hollywood productions cannot be imagined without muscle cars.
The history of American muscle cars
From the 1964 Pontiac GTO to the 1971 Plymouth Hemi Cuda from 1971: the classic car museum PS.Speicher in Einbeck is dedicated to the special features of this automotive species. In the 1960s, Detroit was transformed into the "Rome of the New World". The Motor City's Woodward Avenue mutated into an arena for modern gladiators, who competed against each other in illegal street races with V8 engines. The resounding success of the muscle cars was due to breathtaking acceleration values, crazy model names and last but not least: an unbeatably low price.
The PS.Speicher is presenting a special exhibition that is unique in Germany. A dozen genuine muscle cars from Ford, Chevrolet and Chrysler tell the story of American automotive history and catapult visitors back to a time when brightly colored mid-range cars with powerful eight-cylinder engines made the roads unsafe. The classic car museum provides information about which manufacturers were active and why production came to an abrupt end. The exhibition provides information about "drag stripes" and how the muscle cars are categorized by type.
It pays to be quick: "How fast can you go?" can only be seen at PS.Speicher until February 28, 2025. Admission to the new special exhibition costs seven euros, in combination with a ticket to the experience exhibition or one of the collections only five euros.
