The author and publisher Peter Kurze has been buying up the estates of photographers for around 20 years. This has enabled him to acquire almost 100,000 pictures with negatives and rights. These contemporary photographs were taken by professional and factory photographers with a great deal of effort, beautiful models and car models. With the help of this "mountain of images", he published various books that reflect the flair of the rebuilding period in West Germany.
Two new calendars are being published for 2016, featuring colorful original photos of not only cars from Bremen, but also vehicles from other German car manufacturers from the 1950s and 1960s.
Making a calendar with photos of restored vehicles is easy. All you have to do is go to a museum or a brand meeting and photograph the vehicles. The appeal of the DKW and Borgward calendars, however, lies in the fact that all the images are from the era of the economic miracle. And these historical photographs are also in color, which is particularly rare.
The diversity of DKW models
A calendar for classic car enthusiasts of the DKW brand recalls the 1950s and 1960s, when these two-stroke automobiles could be seen everywhere on the roads of the young Federal Republic.
The variety of DKW types from the post-war period is shown on 13 pages. These include the chic DKW F 12 Cabriolet, the rather fast Auto Union 1000 S, the Bundeswehr off-road vehicle Munga, the fashionable AU 1000 sports coupé and also the last two-wheeler from Auto Union, the DKW F 102.
The treasures of the 50s from the Hanseatic city
The 2016 Borgward calendar commemorates the cars that Bremen industrialist Carl F. W. Borgward produced in the Hanseatic city in the 1950s. The historical color photos show the chic Isabella Coupé, the Hansa 2400 Sport representative car presented in 1952, the sophisticated Hansa 2400 Pullman, the elegant Lloyd Arabella and the first car with a pontoon body, the Hansa 1500/1800 from 1949.
Two trucks are also represented in the contemporary pictures. A Borgward 1 1/2-ton B611 truck is collecting animal feed from Vitakraft in Arbergen and a large truck (Type 4500) is being tested in the Uphuser dunes.
