Once again this fall, there are many new books on the market that should interest car enthusiasts. A small selection from the wide range on offer is presented here.
Porsche: From design office to global brand
Ferdinand Porsche founded his "design office" in 1931. The brilliant engineer - previously the designer of electric cars and racing cars as well as chief developer at Daimler-Benz - was to lay the foundations for what would later become a global company until his death in 1951.
Wolfram Pyta tells the story of the company in these turbulent early years: from the creation of the Volkswagen to the arrangement with the Nazis and wartime production to the development of the exclusive sports car manufacturer - a fascinating account that combines company history, automotive history and contemporary history.

Our Le Mans: The Movie - The Friendship - The Facts (English)
This book documents the friendship between Steve McQueen and his Le Mans co-star Siegfried Rauch. It includes photos from Rauch's family album, as well as original photos from the movie set and rare documents. Siegfried Rauch, who plays McQueen's relentless rival in the classic film Le Mans, was a close friend of the actor in real life. Rauch takes us through this book and tells us for the first time what it was like: what McQueen was like, when he ate sauerkraut or played with her children and how he became her godfather. Rauch shows a different, private side of the "King of Cool".
The other stars, the real racing drivers of Le Mans, also have their say. Herbert Linge remembers the Porsche 908 that belonged to McQueen, which he drove as Dolly during the race. Hans Herrmann and Richard Attwood talk about their victory in the Porsche 917, the first Porsche overall victory at the Sarthe. Stuntman Dr. Erich Glavitza, who also prepared the cars, explains what happened during filming in the Solar Village in 1970. This unique book offers completely new insights into the filming of a cult classic.

Courageous, sophisticated, motorized: Fast-paced stories of the woman at the wheel
In her richly illustrated book, Susanne Gretter shows how closely the history of the automobile is linked to the biographies of amazing women. The daring female motorists, who not only drove brilliantly but were also able to change every oil and tire with aplomb, range from the world traveler Clärenore Stinnes, the racing driver Anita Kind, the casually cool adventurers Annemarie Schwarzenbach and Erika Mann and the pioneer Bertha Benz to the writers Gertrude Stein and Françoise Sagan.
Susanne Gretter studied English, Romance languages and literature and political science in Tübingen and Berlin. She has published numerous books, including the series "Die kühne Reisende".

Motor classics: centerpieces of the great car legends
Automobiles are more than just everyday objects for getting from one place to another. Numerous vehicles have achieved cult status, are the object of automotive desires or have written technological history. It is often forgotten that a car is not just well-shaped sheet metal on four wheels, but that it also has a fiery heart in the form of an engine. And hardly any other invention has influenced the 20th century as much as the combustion engine.
This book is a tribute to the combustion engine and the automobile. It presents more than 80 classic engines and the vehicles that go with them. However, it is not only about vehicle legends that celebrated great success in motor racing, but also about cars and their engines that tell special stories.
