It's done! The 2017 Zwischengas annual magazine will soon be on newsstands. To celebrate our fifth anniversary last year, we produced a print magazine for the first time so that you could also read Zwischengas offline. Due to the positive feedback, we have decided to publish a print magazine for 2017 as well. The work has been completed, the 260-page magazine is ready and over 30 articles/reports are just waiting to be read.
Legendary and special moments
There was a lot going on in the classic car world in 2016. Never before have the most valuable classic cars been traded at such high prices as in 2016, yet the fear of a price slump was palpable. We have analyzed the market situation and recorded the results of the 2016 auction year in clear tables.
Not only auctions were held, but also several beauty contests. We were also present at some of them and published online reports, in the annual magazine there is an overview of the 2016 Concours with photos of the winners. We were also present at the relocation of the Busch Museum, which moved its entire classic car arsenal to a new location.
We also took a look at the past. The articles include an eyewitness account of the 1954 Carrera Panamericana, the most dangerous road race, which started for the last time in 1954. The 3077 km route led through the Mexican countryside and claimed a number of victims. Boyd Hernell was there with his camera and reported on the race and the tragedies surrounding it.
Portraits that get under your skin
We have not limited ourselves to events, but have also followed in the footsteps of interesting personalities from the classic car scene. For example, Rainer Brain tells us how he got to know "Royal Highness Leopold Prince of Bavaria" (Poldi), who got up to one or two pranks with his two colleagues Quester and Stuck. Poldi always seemed to have a good time, even if he sometimes went a bit over the top.
2016 was not all joy. On August 12, 2016, Dr. Emil Enzmann, the designer of the Enzmann 506, passed away at the age of 95. Five years earlier, in an unusual conversation with Bernhard Brägger, Emil Enzmann recalled the time when he, his father and his five brothers realized the idea of the modern road sports car.
A look on and under the sheet metal
The 17 vehicle articles in the 2017 annual magazine take a closer look at no fewer than 31 vehicles. The selection ranges from an MG built in 1934 to three Opel Rekords and a Ferrari F40.
The MG Magnete NA/NE invites us on a journey through time with its six cylinders and supercharger. When the Royal Automobile Club banned superchargers for the 1934 Tourist Trophy, the people at MG had to build a new sports car capable of winning as the successor to the K3 within four months. Quite a challenge! And so the MG NE was born.
The Opel Rekord is one of the most successful "business class" saloons. Around ten million of the eight generations were sold between 1953 and 1986! They all shine with reliability, value for money and elegance. They not only impress the man in the hat...
For ten years, it was the fastest super sports car on the market - the Jaguar XJ 220. When it was presented at the 1988 Birmingham Motor Show, it was still uncertain whether the sports car with a V12 mid-engine and all-wheel drive would ever be built. But so many buyers came forward that Jaguar had no choice but to produce the super sports car, albeit with extensively modified technology...
The Jaguar XJ220 is not the only beautiful classic that we were allowed to photograph, the Maserati Merak is also part of our 31-strong team of the 2017 annual magazine. It was built between 1972 and 1982, basically as an offshoot of the Bora with the technology that came from the Citroën SM. However, the potpourri was quite successful and is even more impressive today as a classic!
Over 30 years ago, the DTM offered much more variety than it does today. For example, the Ford Sierra could be seen competing against the BMW M3 and Mercedes-Benz 190E 16-valve cars. A private Swiss team entered the race with a Toyota Supra and made the competition sweat.
Another car from the 1980s is part of the line-up, the Mercedes Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evo 1. It is the perfect car to show how far car manufacturers sometimes go to be successful in racing. It is rare, fast and suitable for everyday use, the evolution of evolution.
Last but not least - don't worry, there are several more articles in the annual magazine on the pages in between - the sporty, last of the Mohicans enlivens the pages. The Ford Capri 2.8 Injection brought the 1981 family coupé and our 2016 annual magazine back to life...
The 2017 annual magazine will be available at many points of sale (kiosks) from December 12, 2016, but can also be ordered online at Zwischengas.
