The 60th issue of SwissClassics Revue is now available at newsstands. The focus of the issue is on a winter-ready Swede that is quite conspicuous on Swiss roads - the Saab 96 V4. But of course many Swiss cars are also featured, such as a special bodywork by Tüscher or a Giuliani car tractor converted from a Fiat.
Saab 96 V4 - winter car from the far north
Today, a Saab 96 stands out on the road, especially in the colder seasons. Yet 30 years ago it was a common sight on the roads and was also popular in winter. The Swedes obviously knew how to build a car suitable for winter use. In any case, the Saab has retained its qualities over the decades, as this driving report shows.
Mercedes-Benz 350 SL - comfort and safety
Richard Gere drove a black one as "American Gigolo" in the film of the same name, Jennifer Hart drove a yellow one in the TV series "Hart, aber herzlich", and Bobby Ewing chauffeured his wife Pamela around in a red Mercedes-Benz SL of the R107 series. The Jaguar XK caused quite a stir when it made its debut in 1948, and it still thrills a large audience today. It is therefore not surprising that the XK models 120, 140 and 150 are not cheap. Swiss coachbuilders - Buick Eight Tüscher
In contrast to local car manufacturers, Swiss coachbuilders existed to a considerable extent. They were subsidized by the state by reimbursing part of the customs duties if the body was built in Switzerland on an imported chassis. One coachbuilder who repeatedly produced special coachwork was Tüscher. The SwissClassics team took a look at a Buick Eight Series 40 that was built in Zurich.
Swiss tractors - Giuliani & Co.
Farmers in Switzerland have never had it easy. In the last half of the last century, mechanization played a major role. Those who had only man and beast to do the work could no longer keep up and had to use technology. However, tractors were too expensive for small farmers. The solution was to convert cars into tractors. Like the former Fiat Tipo 515, for example, which is featured in the SwissClassics Revue.
