On the occasion of record-low interest rates on savings, the editorial team of Auto Bild klassik suggests a selection of classic cars to buy in issue 8/2014. After all, a car like this is much more fun than bank account balances reduced by inflation, according to Bernd Wieland in the editorial.
How about a Mercedes Benz 230 TE (W124), an Audi Coupé S2, a Volvo C70 Cabriolet, a VW Golf II Fire & Ice, a Land Rover 110 or a Cadillac Brougham? The lead story answers whether these are really suitable as investment objects.
Pearls from the island
While we come across a 300 SL or a 356 at almost every classic car meeting, for many people it has probably been a while since they have seen a Ford Prefect, a Ford Zodiac Mk II or a Ford Consul Mk II (especially as a convertible).
It's nice to see a report dedicated to these comparatively rare English Ford models. In addition to those already mentioned, there are also sections on the Ford Anglia 105E, Ford Escort Mexico, Ford Cortina Mk II, Ford Corsair V4 and Ford Cortina Lotus. Of course, it is not possible to formulate buying advice for all these cars on eleven pages, but it is nevertheless an inspiration. Thank you Mr. König.
The fascination of in-line six-cylinder engines
Completely balanced flywheels - this is the advantage of the in-line six-cylinder engine, which was still one of the predominant engine designs in the seventies and eighties. It will soon be extinct when BMW and Volvo stop believing in it and downsizing only allows us four-cylinder turbo engines.
Because it is long, the R6 is not really suitable for transverse installation and when installed longitudinally, it creates difficulties for engineers when designing the crumple zones.
So Auto Bild klassik once again shows four of the more interesting representatives: Mercedes Benz 300 SL (W198), Jaguar E Type S1, BMW M1 and Nissan Skyline GT-R R32. The latter in particular is the salt in the soup, as it is less well known in this country. With its 280 hp, the car conjures up acceleration times of around six seconds on the asphalt, and this at a current value of 18,500 euros. Perhaps an investment tip?
Revived once again - Immerrath
In Germany, entire villages have to make way for lignite mining, two examples being the villages of Immerath and Borschemich on the Lower Rhine. Beautiful village centers, old buildings and beautiful streets are being sacrificed to the Garzweiler II open-cast mine. Once again, life was breathed into the districts by setting up classic cars from Mercedes Heckflosse to VW Karmann Ghia. An impressive series of photos ...
Of course, it doesn't end there. Auto Bild klassik also tests headlamps for roadside assistance, shows Porsche models that were never produced (754 T7, 984, Turbo Number 1, 928 Cabriolet), tells of Heidi Hetzner's ride in the 1930 Hudson Great Eight and of the rescued BMW 635 CSI of the Bullen von Tölz.
