German classic car magazines are currently engaged in a real competition to see who can provide more content. The editors of Auto Bild klassik are at the forefront of the battle, delivering six comparison tests in the new 10/2014 issue, which is currently on sale at newsstands, in which they measure, weigh, look and feel.
Battle of the giants
These six comparative tests each group a Mercedes classic with a "counterpart" from Porsche. Mercedes Benz 190 SL against Porsche 356, Mercedes 280 SL against Porsche 911 S 2.2 Targa, Mercedes 350 SE against Porsche 911 T, Mercedes 190 E 2.3-16 against Porsche 944 S, Mercedes SLK 230 Kompressor against Porsche Boxter and Unimog 2010 against Porsche 597 Jagdwagen are the names of the pairings.
And it is not only the composition of the opponents that is surprising, but also the results. The Porsche is not always more sporty. We won't reveal any more here.
Over 1200 vehicles for the general public
Karl-Heinz Rehkopf was a meticulous collector. Only a few people knew about his huge motorcycle and automobile collection. Now, however, it is being "returned" to the public, as an impressive report shows.
The everyday cars of the seventies and eighties
Once again, ABk is devoting itself to vehicles that we hardly noticed in everyday life because there were so many of them on our roads, but which have now disappeared almost unnoticed and are now as rare as a BMW 507 or a 300 SL. We are talking about the first-generation VW Passat Estate, the Ford Escort estate with front-wheel drive, the Renault 14 or the Fiat 131.
Hollywood in Bendestorf
In the middle of the 20th century, Bendestorf suddenly became the Hollywood of Germany. Films such as "Die Sünderin" and "Heideschulmeister Uwe Karsten" came out of the film center, famous German film stars such as Ingrid Steeger, Gert Fröbe and Freddy Quinn stayed in the village. Now this film mecca is to be demolished. A good time to drive there again in the beautiful Borgward Isabella and take a look at it all.
Porsche again
At the back of the magazine, Porsche has its say again. On display are once-secret four-door prototypes, which will be made accessible to the public as part of an exhibition from September 17, 2014.
And, of course, there are the usual sections and around 180 pages of reading material in case the early fall weather does let up.
