With the completion of the renovation of the listed shed roof hall, Motorworld Manufaktur Berlin has now opened the "Alte Härterei". In June, the Dörr Group with Lamborghini and McLaren, Indian Motorcycle and Suzuki as well as DriversHall moved into the historic building on the peninsula on the banks of the Havel in the Berlin district of Spandau. Events for up to 200 people are also possible. The shed roof hall was once the "Alte Härterei" of the former Auto-Union-Werke.
Modern sports cars under old roofs
The Dörr Group is bringing the Italian super sports car brand Lamborghini back to the capital and will open "Lamborghini Berlin", the official brand representation of the Italian super sports car manufacturer, in the Motorworld Manufaktur Berlin at the end of July. The showroom and workshop cover almost 600 square meters in the architecturally exclusive and contrasting shed roof hall.
The Dörr Group is also launching a workshop here with the British super sports car brand McLaren and offering its usual high-quality service.
Services for sports cars
DriversHall has opened its doors as another specialist for super sports cars at Motorworld Manufaktur Berlin. Scouting of fine cars and the purchase or sale on consignment in its own showroom round off the Berlin offering. DriversHall also offers a members' club for sports car fans throughout Europe - passionate members meet up for exclusive events, excursions and driver training sessions in Europe and around the world. In future, the company will offer professional storage of super sports cars and classic cars, including on-site maintenance and other high-quality services on the Motorworld Manufaktur site in Berlin.
Motorcycles too
Motorcycle dealer Harald Schätzchen with the Indian Motorcycle and Suzuki brands has also moved into its new premises. As a licensed contractual partner of both brands, the company specializes in both the sale and repair of two-wheelers. It also offers spare parts.
Where the Berlin cars learned to drive
Motorworld Manufaktur Berlin is located in the Berlin district of Spandau on a peninsula directly on the banks of the Havel in the immediate vicinity of the Spandau Citadel. It is now reviving history on this green spot right on the waterfront: from 1928 to 1940, DKW rear-wheel drive cars were built here, later including bodies and individual parts for front-wheel drive models. After the takeover of Auto Union by Volkswagen in the 1960s, the DKW plant was closed. The "Alte Härterei" is a historic building that still exists. With its characteristic shed roof, it served as a transmission production facility for DKW and Auto Union vehicles.
The Motorworld Group has extensively renovated the listed shed roof hall. The old walls, some of which date back to the imperial era, and the shed roof, which brought light into the interior even before the neon tubes were installed, were carefully uncovered, structurally reworked and integrated into the new use of the hall. Very complex processes were also required for the new insulated floor and for the glazed partitions between the showrooms and workshops.
Start of the second construction phase
With the completion of the "Alte Härterei" and the completion of the work at the entrance to the site to improve access via the ACTIV-GEWERBE-PARK Berlin-Spandau, the first construction phase of Motorworld Manufaktur Berlin is now complete. The Seatadelle saddlery, the Graf classic car workshop and Lina van de Mars with her workshop 1342 Motors are already located in the access area.
What happens next? The building application for the second construction phase has been submitted. This comprises new buildings in an attractive and versatile modular design. Further retail space, workshops, manufactories, showrooms, offices and studios relating to the topic of mobility, as well as restaurants and various event spaces, will be located between the historic old buildings, which have been renovated in line with heritage requirements. The new buildings will be grouped around a market square, which is also ideal for vehicle presentations and events of all kinds. In addition, a container hotel will be built on the roofs of these new buildings, the only one of its kind in the world to date.
The Motorworld Manufaktur Berlin site is located in the western Berlin district of Haselhorst in the Spandau district, close to the busy, multi-lane "Am Juliusturm" arterial road and right next to the BMW motorcycle plant. Berlin's "City West" can be reached from here in 20 minutes by car, Tegel Airport is 15 minutes away.
