The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL "Gullwing" (W 198) is still one of the world's dream cars today. From 1954 to 1957, only 1400 units of the famous "Gullwing" were built, which was named "Sports Car of the Century" in 1999. In some cases, important body parts are needed to preserve these valuable vehicles. Mercedes-Benz Classic has now reissued these, and further parts are in preparation.
The body parts meet the high standards of Daimler AG and can be ordered from any Mercedes-Benz sales partner using their part number. Their surface is coated with a cathodic dip coating (KTL coating) that meets the highest technical and visual requirements.

The sheet metal parts are manufactured by a certified supplier for Mercedes-Benz Classic. Its expertise includes the required, highly sophisticated tool design from optimized 3D data of original bodies. The sheet metal parts produced on these tools are then finished by hand using tapping tools - also custom-made products.
The result of this symbiosis of the latest production technology with traditional craftsmanship is a high fitting accuracy that reduces reworking on the vehicle to a minimum.
The precise 3D tool data also forms the basis of the quality inspection with the complex false color comparison. The measuring tool receives them as a reference, visualizes measured deviations between the target and actual state via false colors and thus makes measurement results clear and quick to interpret.
