"The race must go on," the organizers must have thought to themselves as they organized the Steckborn-Eichhölzli Hill Climb in 1955 and 1962. But it felt like it took half an eternity before the “Friends of the Steckborn Hill Climb” club was founded in 2006, thereby raising the starting flag for new editions of the popular classic car hill climb at this panoramic location.
The association is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year with a special exhibition at the Turmhof Museum, which will be on view through October 18.
For the sixth time, following 2007, 2010, 2015, 2018, and 2023
Already in those years, classic car enthusiasts drove their well-maintained rare automobiles and motorcycles through the Scheitinger-Rank—the long right-hand bend at the upper Härdli— the Brünneli curve through the chicane in front of the Eichhölzli viewpoint all the way to the finish line. Numerous racing luminaries—such as Marcel Fässler, Marco Werner, Fredy Lienhard, and Joachim Winkelhock, who described the hill climb as “Monaco on the Untersee”—put the pedal to the metal and thrilled several thousand visitors. Word spread quickly in the racing scene, and as a result, the starting grid for this year’s event sold out within five (!) weeks. The ACS Thurgau, as the co-organizer in charge, was literally overwhelmed.
An entertaining program and legendary race cars
On August 22 and 23, 2026, around 350 vehicles will once again drive up the small Seerücken hill as part of the Memorial Performance and Memorial Corso categories.
The oldest vehicle is an American La France built in 1915. The winning car from the 1955 Steckborn Hill Climb—a 1949 Jaguar XK 120 Alu—will also be there.
A Bugatti Type 35 and a Maserati 8CM are also expected at the starting line.
The classic cars will be on display in the paddocks in the town center. Food and drink stands will be available for visitors in the town center and along the race track. There are also designated parking spaces for those arriving in classic cars. Additionally, a Concours d’Élégance featuring period-appropriate attire will be held.
Family-Friendly
Admission prices are affordable for visitors: a day pass costs only CHF 20.00, and a weekend pass CHF 35.00. Children and teens (ages 8–16) pay CHF 8.00 for a day pass and CHF 15.00 for a weekend pass. Children under 8 years old can attend for free.
