The details of the 6-wheel Tyrrell P34-Ford were also a feast for the eyes at the 1976 Belgian Grand Prix in Zolder. However, Patrick Depailler had to retire with engine damage after just 29 of the 70 laps, but team-mate Jody Scheckter still finished fourth.
1981 was a very varied year for rallying. Renault, Audi, Talbot, Fiat, Datsun, Lancia and Ford each won at least one round of the world championship. In the end, however, Talbot came out on top in the manufacturers' standings. Here, Henri Toivonen masterfully circles his Talbot Sunbeam Lotus through the crowds of fans on one of the asphalt stages near Lisbon at the Rally Portugal.
Even in May it can rain in Sicily, as here at the 1966 Targa Florio, and Lorenzo Bandini promptly slid off the track in the Ferrari 330 P3 on lap seven of ten on the slippery track and had to retire. In the rain, the race on the normal country roads used for the Targa Florio was also a particular challenge due to the 72-kilometer length of the track.
The French Grand Prix took place on the fast Reims circuit in 1961. Ferrari brought three 156s for its usual drivers, plus another car entered by a private Italian team for Giancarlo Baghetti. He battled with Dan Gurney's Porsche for victory until shortly before the finish line and ultimately won his first Grand Prix. The nose of the 156 shows clear signs of slipstream racing.
The decisive moment of the 1000 km race at the Nürnburgring in 1961: The Ferrari 250 TRI, driven by the brothers Pedro and Ricardo Rodriguez, comes into the pits with a puncture on the right front tire and loses exactly the one lap it needs to win the race at the end. Victory ultimately went to the Camoradi Maserati Tipo 61 driven by Masten Gregory and Lucky Casner.
