The legendary Bernina Gran Turismo mountain race returns - on the famous pass road between Poschiavo and Pontresina
The event from 18 to 21 September 2025 is an anniversary edition, celebrating two milestone birthdays: 10 years of the Bernina Gran Turismo (revival) and 100 years since the Grisons Alpine passes were opened to motorized traffic. What was once forbidden terrain for motor vehicles in the Engadin subsequently became a symbol of automotive freedom. To celebrate this extraordinary automotive heritage of the original Bernina races of 1929-1930, the Bernina Gran Turismo was revived 10 years ago.
Previous editions have featured legendary cars such as the Bugatti Type 35, the Ferrari 250 GT SWB "Breadvan" and the Jaguar D-Type, as well as rally legends such as the Lancia Delta Integrale. In 2025, a program of events will once again unfold between Poschiavo, the Bernina Pass and St. Moritz from 18 September, promising unforgettable experiences for drivers and spectators alike.
"The route over the Bernina is a journey through a hundred years of motorsport history. From its beginnings in 1929 to the present day, every ride is a tribute to the fascination of altitude, the aesthetics of technology and a landscape that is still making history today," says Luca Moiso, Director of Bernina Gran Turismo. Two categories offer driving pleasure with a different focus: "Regularity" is aimed at lovers of precise driving and tactical timekeeping, while the "Competition" category focuses on direct competition. The last registrations were possible until August 20; a jury then decided on the admission of suitable vehicles in order to ensure an attractive mix and to increasingly develop the competition towards race-ready vehicles.
The people steering the Bernina Gran Turismo legacy
As with any great legacy, it takes a team of passionate people to create a modern vision of the race and preserve its heritage. These include Luca Moiso, director of the Bernina Gran Turismo and co-founder of its modern form, who brings over a decade of experience in organizing classic car events across Europe. Born in Turin - a city with a deep-rooted automotive tradition - Luca ensures that every detail of the Bernina Gran Turismo is executed with precision, passion and perfect coordination.
Together with Luca Moiso, Ana Engelhorn is the driving force behind the modern development of Bernina Gran Turismo. As President of the Board of Directors, she combines strategic vision with personal commitment in all areas. She builds bridges between riders, sponsors and the region - and thinks of the Bernina not just as a race, but as an elegant, vibrant celebration of tradition, community and style.
And Claus Müller, international consultant for classic motorsport and long-time administrator of the Bernina Gran Turismo, is the constant in the team. As an experienced expert and passionate enthusiast, Claus combines the history of motorsport with the organizational precision that an event like the Bernina Gran Turismo requires. He also heads up the Customer Care department and ensures that every participant and member feels personally looked after throughout the entire registration process.
The revival of the Bernina Gran Turismo in 2014 was inspired by the vision of founder and shareholder Kurt Engelhorn - a passionate car collector, art patron and motorsport enthusiast. Kurt brought the event back to life with a clear goal: To honor the spirit of the legendary Bernina Races of 1929 and 1930 and the soul of the Engadine. For him, the Bernina Gran Turismo is a love letter to the Engadin and to the art and passion of classic motorsport.
Celebrating 10 years with strong local and regional support
This year's edition of the legendary hill climb for historic vehicles is made possible by the support of dedicated sponsors who share the vision of the Bernina Gran Turismo: St. Moritz Tourism is the new partner for the 10th anniversary and this is "something very fitting", says Ana Engelhorn, President of the Board of ISAW and is grateful. "Because this event is not just about historic vehicles; it's about celebrating the history, the people and the place that make the Bernina Gran Turismo a unique race in the world," underlining the close connection between the event and the Engadin.
Key partners for 2025 also include Kusana, Kessel, Graubündner Kantonalbank, PPM St. Moritz, Roarington and Tony Kelly World, whose commitment reflects a shared passion for preserving this unique motorsport event. The support of local companies and partners, including König, Cresta and the AMCE Group, combined with the commitment of local residents, also plays a central role in the realization of the event.

For spectators, there are some rules regarding travel (there will also be shuttles) and any on-site closures, but at the same time the visit is free of charge, food trucks will provide culinary variety - so it is guaranteed to be a great experience.
The application process for drivers has been completed and a selection committee has reviewed all applications.
Another tip for anyone interested in history: a special exhibition at the Expo Valposchiavo Punto Rossa on the Vial da la Stazion in Poschiavo will highlight the stylish history of the Bernina Mountain Race for a week from September 10.
