On June 13, 2015, the next Le Mans Legend race will start at the famous Circuit de la Sarthe in France. The race, which takes place a few hours before the modern 24 Hours of Le Mans, will once again feature an exciting starting field of over 60 Le Mans cars from 1949 to 1968.
The "support race" of the 24h of Le Mans
The Le Mans Legend, organized by Motor Racing Legends, is the annual "support race" of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Each year, the organizers choose a specific era from Le Mans history and invite real race cars and their siblings to compete in the hugely competitive historic race on the 8.5-mile Le Mans circuit in France.
Age range now larger
The age range of participating vehicles in the Le Mans Legend race has been extended for 2015, so that an even wider range of racing car icons can take part in the historic motorsport spectacle.
In contrast to previous years, racing cars built between 1949 and 1968 are now allowed to take part. This will bring icons such as the Ford GT40, the Porsche 908 and 910 and the Alfa Romeo T33/2 into the race - in addition to all the sports and GT cars from the 50s and 60s, all of which once took part in the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans.
A moving motorsport museum at Le Mans
Duncan Wiltshire, Chairman of Motor Racing Legends, says proudly: "We are very excited about this new aspect of the race. It means that spectators will be able to see cars from 20 years of Le Mans history all on the track at the same time - a moving motorsport museum, so to speak! We are aware of the wide performance gap between the fastest and the slowest cars and that is why we have restricted entries and will only allow older cars that we believe can complete the circuit in a reasonable time. The result will be stunning - from the oldest cars like the Jaguar C-Type or the Allard J2 to the newest additions to the grid like the GT40."
