Sant'Agata Bolognese/Portopiccolo, September 23, 2019 - 36 classic Lamborghini models produced between 1964 and 1991 took part in the second edition of the "Lamborghini & Design" Concours d'Élégance. The event, organized by the Lamborghini Polo Storico, took place from 19 to 21 September 2019 between Venice and Trieste as a tribute to the creative genius of Italian architect Gae Aulenti (1927-2012), who was born not far from Trieste and made a name for herself as an ambassador for Italian design and architecture all over the world.
Italian automotive history up close
The vehicles, which set off from Venice, reached the coastal town of Portopiccolo near Trieste on Friday after a tour of around 200 kilometers. On Saturday morning, the classic cars were judged by an international jury of experts, all Lamborghini connoisseurs and enthusiasts. While the jury evaluated the results for the evening awards ceremony, the participants continued their journey to Piazza Unità d'Italia in Trieste on Saturday afternoon. There was great excitement in the city's main square, where people were able to experience Italian automotive history up close.
The tour continued along the route of the historic Trieste-Opicina hill climb and, after a detour to Slovenia, back to Portopiccolo - a 62-kilometer route with plenty of driving fun for the Lamborghini drivers. In the evening, after a flashback to some of Gae Aulenti's life stages and works by Nina Artioli, head of the archive and granddaughter of the architect, the award ceremony took place. The title of "Best in Show" went to the winner of Class A "Front Engine Dawn", the Lamborghini 350 GT with chassis number 102 from a Swiss collector. The vehicle, which was restored with great care and with strict adherence to its original condition, marks one of the highlights in the history of the car manufacturer. The first 350 GT with chassis number 102 sold to a private customer at the time is still the oldest Lamborghini production vehicle still in existence today.
