In December 2020, despite the uncertain situation, the Kerenzerberg Race OC decided to resume work so that the event could have been held in June 2021. Unfortunately, the ray of hope was short-lived. The continuing lack of planning certainty, the uncertain pandemic situation and economic reasons prompted the decision to cancel the race once again. The organizers very much regret this development.
Postponement to the fall is not an option
Preliminary clarifications have shown that a postponement to fall 2021 is not possible. There are various reasons for this, says Franz Leupi, OC member of the Kerenzerbergrennen. "We would come into conflict with various interest groups. In addition, we would not have the necessary helpers available and the announced extremely interesting starting field would be reduced enormously, as other mountain and motorsport races are already on the racing calendar in the fall."
Traditional event
From 1967 to 1970, the Kerenzerberg race was one of the most beautiful racing events in Switzerland. Nationally and internationally renowned racing drivers would not miss the opportunity to take part in the Kerenzerberg race.
In 2018, the Kerenzerberg Race was revived under the new organizing committee. The start is true to the original at the Waid restaurant in Mollis. The 3.17 km route features four hairpin bends and fast sections with sweeping curves all the way to the hamlet of Fohrenwald. The race is held as a demonstration event without timekeeping. Historic racing cars will be at the start. Other interesting demo vehicles increase the attractiveness of the race.
New date has been set
It is pleasing that a date has already been set for 2022. The hill climb will take place from June 17 to 19, 2022. This means that the originally planned biennial rhythm can be maintained. The organizer will contact all those involved in due course to discuss the new situation. Drivers who have already registered will receive a guaranteed starting place for the next event and all reserved VIP tickets will be valid for 2022.
The OC Kerenzerbergrennen hopes to be able to offer two unforgettable race days next year from Saturday to Sunday in the usual setting and would like to thank everyone involved for their great support.
Up-to-date information will always be published on the event website.
