There was actually some justifiable hope that the pandemic would end soon, when Peter and Renate Hürlimann announced that they would have to cancel the St. Gallen classic car fair planned for October 2022.
There are several reasons for the cancellation. The exhibition center is under construction and it is difficult to navigate around the construction sites. The pandemic situation is still uncertain. Renate Hürlimann comments:
"We had fewer exhibitors and fewer visitors at the last trade fair. Many visitors shied away from the cost of an on-site test. However, the pandemic has increased the workload and made planning much more difficult. We also had to hire additional staff."
While the exhibition companies received pandemic-related compensation, the guest exhibitions had to get by without it. This weighed heavily on the Hürlimanns' budget, especially as they organize the trade fair without sponsors.
For 2022, Peter and Renate want to concentrate on building up their car museum in Lömmenschwil, where there is still a lot of work to be done.
However, the St. Gallen classic car show will of course return, and the date for October 29, 2023 has already been set.
