There are probably few cars where you have so much choice of manufacturers for a replica (or continuation example). Ecurie Ecosse recently announced its plans, but Jaguar has now also joined in.
Eight cars are to be built to the 53-series specification and buyers can even specify the car themselves, choosing the exterior color, leather color, starting number area and the brand logo on the front of the front end. The fact that color combinations are also available that were probably not fitted to any C-Type at the time is only mentioned in passing.
It is fitting that 70 years after the first Le Mans victory of a Jaguar C-Type, the replicas are being started.
As is well known, the Jaguar C-Type was based on the XK120, hence the name XK120C. It owed its racing success to the aerodynamic dress that Malcom Sayer gave it.
In 1952, the C-Type was fitted with disc brakes and in 1953 the car won Le Mans again with an improved specification. The triumph was further cemented by 2nd and 4th place.
It is precisely this 1953 specification that now forms the basis for the eight Continuation vehicles. The engine has a displacement of 3.4 liters, and thanks to the triple Weber carburetor 40DC03, the in-line six-cylinder produces 220 hp. Disc brakes provide reliable deceleration. The cars are hand-built and, after paying a substantial sum of money, their owners are allowed to drive them in racing operations and on closed roads.
