It was a tragedy in 1956. Roger Walshaw and Peter Bolton competed that year in a privately entered Jaguar XK 140 Coupé and were running very successfully up to 11th overall when they were black-flagged out of the race in the 21st hour and after 206 laps, wrongly, as the ACO also had to admit.
Although the race organizer wanted to give the team a free starting place for the following year, this would have been little consolation in view of the possible finish in one of the top ten places. In any case, the Jaguar XK 140 did not compete again and thus remained the only XK 140 FHC ever to race in the 24 Hours.
Now, however, the car has been completely restored by CMC and, 60 years after its only outing, will once again compete at Le Mans on the occasion of the Le Mans Classic in Field 2 (1949 to 1956) and in the Jaguar Classic Challenge.
The car will be driven by its current owner Peter Neumark, who has also won Le Mans in a Jaguar D-Type in the past.
