75 years ago, in February 1939, an engineer from Hanomag set four world records with a 1.9-liter diesel on the Dessau freeway. The top speed was 165 km/h. The original vehicle was destroyed during the Second World War. Now a reconstruction is to honor the four spectacular records.
The impressive rebuild of the Hanomag Rekord Diesel from 1939 has reached the home straight. The vehicle, which is well advanced and now ready to drive, was created through the voluntary efforts of many volunteers and professional supporters. However, further support is needed to complete this milestone in Hanover's technical history. To date, almost €100,000 has already been donated to the project, but around €60,000 is still needed to complete it.
Now that the record-breaking vehicle is ready for use, preparations are underway for the Dessau Historic Record Week. The aim is to spend a week commemorating the countless record-breaking drives in Dessau 75 years ago. The Junkers Museum will be the center of the event and interested visitors and all owners of a streamliner from the pre-war period up to 1939 are welcome.
