Peter Auto, the organization that organizes historic racing events on various racetracks in Europe, including the Le Mans Classic, and the Group C Racing Association are joining forces. From 2016, the Group C racing cars will compete in the Le Mans Classic, as well as in Dijon, Spa and other race tracks.
Legendary vehicles
The Group C racing cars competed in endurance races as part of the Endurance World Championship between 1982 and 1993. Legendary sports cars such as the Porsche 956/962, the Lancia LC2, but also the Mercedes-Benz C9/C11, the Mazda 767/787 and Jaguar XJR9/12, along with many others from manufacturers around the world, were created during this period.
The races attracted large crowds of spectators and the vehicles were also visually and acoustically impressive.
In the past, these cars could already be admired from time to time at historic racing events, but the new cooperation will make them even more popular.
Back to Le Mans
The highlight of next year will of course be the events in the Sarthe, which are also very popular with the public, where the Group C cars will probably be integrated into their own grid and thunder down the Hunaudières straight at over 300 km/h, just like back then. The prototypes will also be on show at the Spa-Classic, the Grand Prix de l'Age d'Or and the Dix Mille Tours.
