The Goodwood Revival 2015 successfully took place on the weekend of September 11-13, 2015. A reason to breathe a sigh of relief, but not for the GRRC (Goodwood Road Racing Clubs), which is already planning next year's Goodwood Members' Meeting. The 74th edition of the Members' Meeting will take place on the weekend of March 19-20, 2016, and the announcement of the date has already increased anticipation for the historic motorsport event.
There is a long tradition behind the event, as a total of 71 club motor events were held between 1949 and 1966. After a long break, the legendary event for GRRC club members was brought back to life in 2014. Over the past two years, the Members' Meeting has once again become one of those events of the historic motorsport season that nobody wants to miss.
Celebrities such as 24 Hours of Le Mans winners Jochen Mass, Emanuele Poerro and Richard Attwood, touring car legends Steve Soper, Rob Huff, Matt Neal, Rob Gravett, Tim Harvey, Mat Jackson, Andrew Jordan and Jason Plato and celebrities such as GP2 World Champion Stoffel Candoorne and FIA endurance winner Anthony Davidson are expected to be on the grid again in 2016. As a result, Goodwood will also be home to some of the most exciting races of the season.
Following last year's success, the hugely popular Gerry Marshall Trophy, in which only professional racing drivers with Group 1 touring cars from the early 1980s are allowed to compete, will once again be a highlight. There will also be a second edition of the Bruce McLaren Trophy for early Can-Am prototypes in 2016.
The high-speed demonstration runs will be held with Formula 1 cars from 1977-1982. Some of them are cars with which legends such as Mario Andretti, Nelson Piquet and Keke Rosberg celebrated many successes in the world championships. However, spectacular Group 6 sports cars will also be competing, such as the Le Mans winner, the Porsche 917 or the Ferrari 512.
To mark the 50th anniversary of the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans victory, a race exclusively for the Ford GT40 will be held for the first time in 2016, lasting until dusk. There will also be a new race in honor of British and European Touring Car winner Sir John Whitmore.
A total of 13 races will be organized at the 74th Goodwood Members' Meeting, which is not only two more than last year, but more than ever before. 11 of them will take place on the race track, so there will be a packed program of exotic, historic motorsport and plenty of action to watch on Saturday.
Of course, the Goodwood House Cup, which has been won by Anthoney Reid in the past two years, will be contested again. Fun competitions will be held throughout the weekend with house points up for grabs. On Sunday night there will be a big party for all guests, with live music and a spectacular fireworks display as the highlight.
Clubs can already secure a place on the waiting list for the GRCC. Tickets for the event will be available to all Goodwood club members and those on the waiting list from November 2nd. In addition, a limited number of tickets will be released for sale from January 1st.
