Gooding & Co has also been affected by the Concours cancellations. Instead of the planned auction in Pebble Beach, classic cars and automobilia as well as a motorcycle and a tractor will now be auctioned online. A new infrastructure has been set up for this purpose, which will also be used in future for online auctions of this kind, which can be used via a website or mobile bidding application. The auction from August 3 to 7, 2020 marks the beginning.
46 classics from eight decades
The four-wheeled classics, including a Porsche tractor, comprise 46 vehicles, which together are expected to fetch around USD 14.6 million. With the exception of the automobilia, there are no "no reserve" offers.
The Porsche brand is most strongly represented with eight vehicles, followed by Ferrari (6), Mercedes-Benz (6) and Alfa Romeo, Chrysler and Ford with three cars each.
Rarely seen brands are also on offer, such as the VLF in the form of the Force 1 V10 model from 2015, which was built five times based on a design by Henrik Fisker. The technical basis was provided by the Dodge Viper.
The rare rally Porsche
In 1970/1971, Porsche produced a few ST versions of the Porsche 911 to make the sports car more suitable for a wide variety of racing applications. Some of these cars were built as rally versions, including in preparation for the East African Safari.
The car on offer with chassis number 0647 was used as a training car at the East African Safari in 1971. It has since been completely restored and is now back to the way it left the factory in 1971. $ 950,000 to 1.25 million is the estimate
Ferrari young classic trio
They are probably the most sought-after young Ferraris, the F40, the F50 and the Enzo (the F60, so to speak). Gooding can offer a car of each of these three types.
There is the Ferrari F40 from 1992 in US specification. The red coupé with chassis number ZFFMN34A4N0090446 is expected to fetch USD 1.25 to 1.5 million.
The next in the line of ancestors is the F50 from 1995, painted in silver and also in US specification. The twelve-cylinder with chassis number ZFFTG46A6S0104755 was estimated at USD 2.2 to 2.6 million.
Completing the line-up of three is the silver Enzo from 2003. The coupé with chassis number ZFFCW56AX30134948 is expected to fetch USD 2.2 to 2.6 million.
Other rarities from Ferrari's history will also be on offer, such as a white 275 GTB "Long Nose" from 1966 (USD 2.75 to 3.25 million, chassis 08921) and a 250 GTE Series II from 1962 (USD 375,000 to 425,000, chassis 3739 GT).
The "hot rod" from Studebaker
If you want to dig a little deeper into your pockets but would like to buy one of the most powerful sports cars of the 1950s, you could take a look at the 1958 Studebaker Golden Hawk with a 275 hp supercharged engine.
Only 878 examples were built in the last year of production and the example on offer with chassis 6105367 is said to have been restored to a high standard. USD 45,000 to 55,000 almost seems like a bargain.
Mercedes classics selection
The Mercedes selection is extensive.
The unrestored 300 SL Gullwing from 1955 (chassis 198.040.5500457), which was estimated at USD 1.2 to 1.4 million, is certainly unusual.
The Gullwing is joined by a 300 SL Roadster from 1961 (USD 850,000 to 950,000), a certainly unusual E320 pickup from 2000, a G500 and a 220 S from 1959 (USD 30,000 to 40,000).
Youngtimer fans, on the other hand, might be interested in the largely virgin 190E 2.5-16 Evo II from 1990 (USD 225,000 to 275,000).
American rarities
Of course, there are also some American rarities that are rarely seen on this side of the Atlantic.
Examples include the 1953 Chrysler Special (USD 550,000 to 650,000), the 1934 Duesenberg Model J Town Car (USD 950,000 to 1.25 million) and the 1960 Dodge Polara Station Wagon (USD 40,000 to 50,000).
It can also be cheaper
Apart from the fact that the USD is at an all-time low, Gooding & Co can also offer some cars in the five-digit range, such as a 1949 MG TC (USD 35,000 to 45,000) or a 1972 Volvo 1800 ES (USD 25,000 to 35,000). A 1972 Jaguar XJ6 (USD 12,000 to 18,000) or a Ford Model A Five-Window Coupé could be even cheaper at the same estimate.
More information on the individual vehicles and many photos can be found on the Gooding & Co website.
