When classic car enthusiasts and experts from all over the world meet at Techno-Classica in Essen from March 21 to 25, Glasurit, BASF's traditional premium coatings brand, will be represented with its own stand for the seventh time in a row. Glasurit has been the exclusive advisor to FIVA since mid-2016 and supports the world association of classic car clubs in all matters relating to the paintwork of classic vehicles since the invention of the automobile.
With the Turin Charter, FIVA has come one step closer to its goal of elevating historic motor vehicles to the status of protected cultural assets. Now it is a matter of implementing the given guidelines, also for painting and repairs.
Glasurit now offers painting processes that are in line with the charter, such as one-coat metallic repair, the minimum possible repair of scratches or the artificial ageing of new paintwork.
A 1960 Jaguar MK IX, kindly provided by a collector, will serve as a demonstration object and special "eye-catcher" in Essen. Glasurit will be demonstrating at its stand how the paint structure can be made visible with the help of thermographic images. Paint damage and repairs can thus be clearly identified.
The question then quickly arises as to whether this is still patina or whether it has already crossed the line into paint damage or even destruction? Using the example of the Jaguar, whose paintwork shows numerous signs of wear, the experts from Glasurit will demonstrate which decision-making aids the FIVA manual and which repair methods Glasurit offers in order to repair a vehicle in accordance with the Turin Charter.
Color expertise
Color expertise is another important topic for Glasurit. Till Beckmann, Jaguar Germany, and Heiner Stertkamp, Jaguar Association Germany, will explain the "Historical Jaguar Color Database" project and how Glasurit and Jaguar are working together to complete the color history for the Jaguar brand. As a visible sign of this work, Glasurit will have a showcase at its stand at Techno Classica with 10 so-called Speedshapes painted in original colors for the Jaguar XJ, which was introduced 50 years ago.
In addition, classic car enthusiasts will once again find advice and help on paint issues at the Glasurit stand number 115 in Hall 2.0, for example when it comes to recreating a color using a paint sample.
Knowledge on the Internet
Glasurit's concentrated historical paint and color expertise is available on the Internet for anyone who is unable to visit the stand. The Glasurit Classic Car Colors service not only offers access to the Glasurit color tone database, the world's largest color tone archive with over 250,000 color tones and over 600,000 paint mixing formulas, but also to a network of specialist paint stores.
