At the global finale of the Hot Wheels Legends Tour 2024, ten impressive vehicle projects were presented by car enthusiasts and vehicle builders from all over the world. Stops in Colombia and the United Arab Emirates were new additions to the tour calendar. The automotive treasures were assessed by the jury according to authenticity, creativity and workshop spirit. The winner of the Hot Wheels Legends Tour 2024 was announced on November 16.
After winning the Chilean leg of the tour, a home-built race car nicknamed "La Liebre" has secured the global title and will join the Hot Wheels Garage of Legends. The Hot Wheels design team will turn the car into a 1:64 die-cast model that will be available to collectors and fans worldwide.
The story behind "La Liebre"
In 2013, Giuseppe Casagrande and Maurizio Moschini founded "Cars & Coffee Chile" as a non-profit organization to promote car culture in Chile. The aim of the "La Liebre" project was to inspire the Chilean automotive community.
The car is based on a Ford Falcon whose original chassis was significantly modified by Baufer Garage. It features a bespoke Chevrolet 350 engine with 600 hp, coupled to a Saenz-910 five-speed transmission with straight-cut gears.
The vehicle weighs less than 900 kilograms, thanks to a tubular frame and a bespoke fiberglass body optimized for maximum aerodynamics.
On the one hand, the vehicle impressed the jury with its unique combination of vintage design and modern performance. On the other hand, its contribution to the Chilean automotive scene, because the commitment behind "La Liebre" from "Cars & Coffee Chile" embodies exactly what the tour is all about: impressive craftsmanship combined with the mission to promote car culture and inspire others. This makes the racing car "La Liebre" and its team deserving winners and worthy members of the Garage of Legends.
