The organizers have started planning for the Kerenzerberg Race 2022. After two cancellations, the organization is convinced that it will be able to hold the race from 17 - 19 June 2022, and it seems realistic to hold it in early summer 2022.
"We are very much looking forward to planning an unforgettable weekend on the Kerenzerberg for motorsport enthusiasts, classic car fans and the public," says Peter Rufibach, OC President of the Kerenzerberg Race.
The organizers are optimistic and motivated, which has a lot to do with the high-calibre starting field. "Although the registration window had to be opened for the third time, the starting places were completely filled within a few days. That's fantastic, because big names in classic car racing have also confirmed their participation once again," explains Franz Leupi.
Starting field arouses anticipation
Well-known drivers and historic racing cars will be at the start. Eugen Strähl in the 1978 Sauber C5, Fredy Amweg in the BMW-MK 50 FL and Fredy Lienhard in the 1995 Ferrari 333 SP are a permanent fixture on the grid. Hans Peter in the March F1, Jo Siffert's former racing car built in 1970, Jo Vonlanthen in the GRD 273 and Thomas Amweg in the Brabham F2 BT 23 C, in the version that Xavier Perrot drove at Kerenzerberg in 1969, will also be taking part.
Motorcycle fans' hearts will also beat faster when, for example, Barry Sheene's Suzuki 750 TR takes on the mountain route. Manfred Schurti, another big name in the motorsport scene, will be a guest of honor at the race track. Peter Sauber will not miss the Kerenzerberg race either. However, it is still uncertain at this stage what form he will take.
Two days of motorsport on the mountain
Every effort will be made to offer spectators, helpers, participants and everyone else involved two unforgettable days of racing from Saturday to Sunday. The situation surrounding the coronavirus is being constantly monitored and any necessary protective measures are included in the planning.
The organizers rely on the support of volunteers to ensure that an event of this magnitude can be realized. The volunteer portal is already open for registrations.
