The limited edition Carl F. Bucherer Heritage BiCompax Annual Lucerne was inspired by a 1949 Lincoln Cosmopolitan Town with a remarkable history. The classic car originally belonged to Carl Eduard Bucherer, the son of CFB founder Carl Friedrich Bucherer. Over the years, the car has changed hands several times.
In 2013, Jörg G. Bucherer, Carl Eduard's son, was able to buy back the family car thanks to the mediation of zwischengas.com and then had it extensively restored. The new clock, whose colorful details are reminiscent of the restored car, is a tribute to the Bucherer family, to an extraordinary car and to Lucerne, Carl F. Bucherer's home town.
Carl Eduard Bucherer's Lincoln Cosmopolitan Town Sedan
In 1949, Carl Eduard Bucherer, the son of Carl Friedrich Bucherer, founder and namesake of the renowned Swiss watch manufacturer, bought a Lincoln Cosmopolitan Town Sedan and immediately took part in the Concours d'Elégance in Lucerne, where he promptly won.
The family car left a lasting impression on the then 13-year-old son Jörg G. Bucherer. It was sold in 1952 and changed hands several times in the following years. At the beginning of the decade of the new century, the car reappeared in a deplorable condition and was initially to be converted into a hot rod.
In 2013, Jörg G. Bucherer bought the car back and had it extensively restored. Today, 72 years later, the car still causes a stir when it is seen on Swiss roads.
A family car returns home
For Sascha Moeri, CEO of Carl F. Bucherer, the car has a special meaning: "This is such an incredible story. All of us who work with Mr. Bucherer know how much this car means to him. Our designers and watchmakers have been inspired by this passion for the car, but also by the design language of the classic car, and have created a great timepiece.
It is a tribute to Mr. Bucherer, to his passion for the family car, which has returned home after so many years, and of course to our hometown of Lucerne, the place where this extraordinary story about the car and the Bucherer family took place."
The watch for the car: Carl F. Bucherer Heritage BiCompax Annual Lucerne
Such a touching story deserves a special watch: Carl F. Bucherer is proud to pay tribute to its founding family - and their classic Lincoln Cosmopolitan - with the Heritage BiCompax Annual Lucerne. This remarkable watch, limited to 188 pieces, celebrates the Bucherer family and their connection to classic cars and pays homage to Lucerne, the brand's hometown.
The Heritage BiCompax Annual Lucerne - a loving tribute to the brand's home town
The Carl F. Bucherer Heritage BiCompax Annual Lucerne has a 41 mm diameter stainless steel case on a multi-link Milanese stainless steel bracelet with folding clasp and quick-change system. The included calfskin strap with folding clasp also has a quick-change system so that the wearer can change the strap quickly and easily depending on the outfit and occasion.
The silver-colored dial behind the highly domed sapphire crystal features light blue sub-dials with the chronograph minute and second counters as well as a light blue ring with a tachymeter scale.
The light blue color is reminiscent of the paintwork of the car lovingly restored by Jörg G. Bucherer. Other details include the month display between 4 and 5 o'clock and a striking large date below 12 o'clock.
More about the car
zwischengas published its first report on the 1949 Bucherer Lincoln Cosmopolitan Town Sedan back in April 2012, when the elegant four-door car was to be turned into a hot rod. However, contact was then established with the original owner family and so the story took its course, which ultimately led to a completely restored car. The second part of the story was published in SwissClassics Revue 4/2016, which is, however, sold out.
