With the RUF exhibition, the Mac Museum Art & Cars in Singen would like to pay tribute to a demanding, passionate and exciting German entrepreneur. This exhibition is an ode to the speed, fascinating mechanics and unconditional passion of an extraordinary man, his family and his dynamic team.
The story of an extraordinary man
Alois Ruf has been in love with Porsche since 1963: he admires, maintains, repairs and modifies these vehicles. The entrepreneur from Pfaffenhausen in Bavaria took over the family business in 1974 and gave it international dimensions.
Based on the Porsche 911, he applies his technical knowledge to make every vehicle that passes through his hands a unique work of art, a Porsche with reputational DNA. This traditionally includes: superior performance, perfect workmanship, superior handling, maximum safety with the lowest possible weight and all of this combined in a timeless, elegant and clear design.
From tuner to vehicle manufacturer
Over the years and with experience, the company grew and became a vehicle manufacturer recognized by the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) in 1981. From this point onwards, newly manufactured vehicles leaving the factory were stamped with the RUF logo.
In 1987, the RUF CTR, with its low weight (1170 kg) and a power output of 469 hp, offered exceptional performance with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 342 km/h. This made the "Yellowbird" the fastest road-legal sports coupé in the world.
The Yellowbird is known to a whole generation of fans for the way it left its mark on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring. A total of 29 vehicles were produced, but over 80 million were able to experience it through the video game "Gran Turismo".
The possibilities available to a dream manufacturer like Ruf suddenly bring the seemingly impossible within reach. The Ruf carbon fiber bodies are designed in-house and engines are designed by the boss himself.
Alois Ruf's creations are loved all over the world. Enthusiasts in search of purist driving are obsessed with this manufacturer of high-performance automobiles. Fans from all over the world visit the medium-sized company in Pfaffenhausen and are warmly welcomed by Alois Ruf and his family.
Ruf's sports cars are one-offs, individually crafted and technically of the highest standard: sports cars that make hearts beat faster.
The lim Mac 2 exhibition will run on Level 3 from April 20, 2024.
The MAC Museum Art & Cars has been in existence since 2013. MAC1 was built by the Südwestdeutsche Kunststiftung (Southwest German Art Foundation), whose board of directors, entrepreneur couple Hermann Maier and Gabriela Unbehaun-Maier, provided the necessary capital and the town of Singen, which made the building site available. The MAC2 was built entirely by the Gabriela and Hermann Maier Foundation. Both museum buildings are managed personally by the Maier founders. The founders realized their dream with the MAC Museum Art & Cars and created an extraordinary place where automotive art enters into dialogue with art of all kinds, from painting and photography to sculpture, design and video installations. A major concern of the founders was that the architecture of the museums should also become a work of art.
Further information about the museum and the exhibition can be found on the MAC Museum Art & Cars website.
