The Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens (FIVA) has published a guide to the responsible use of historic vehicles on today's roads.
The beautifully illustrated guide is a two-part publication by the FIVA Legislation Commission focusing on road safety and environmentally friendly behavior.
The introduction to the guide states, among other things:
"To ensure that society and the public remain sympathetic to the classic car movement in the future, we must give top priority to road safety and environmental protection. The owners of historic vehicles are known as prudent drivers - the relatively low insurance premiums are proof of this. Furthermore, the share of historic vehicles in total road traffic emissions is negligible, as they are hardly ever used. And if they are, they are usually driven out of town and not in town."
Some of the points in the guide are self-evident for many, but as a summary of all the rules, it is a very good code of conduct for all classic car drivers.
Thanks to the ADAC, there is also a complete German-language version. This can be downloaded from the FIVA website.
