It's actually surprising that no one has come up with this idea before. But apparently the RAID organization is the first to organize a rally aimed exclusively at young drivers.
Two days
Over two days, the young crews, who must be at least 18 but no more than 35 years old, can compete in the "RAID Young Raiders Challenge" in an evenly matched rally with hoses. The winning prize is a brand new VW Golf, which the winners can drive free of charge for a year.
The start is on May 13, 2017 in Dübendorf at the AMAG Center, then the journey continues over small roads to Fribourg, where the night will be spent. On Sunday, May 14, 2017, the route will continue to Bern, where the finish line will be.
There will of course be different classifications for youngtimer and classic cars, and there will also be a separate Volkswagen Cup and a Ladies Cup.
Vehicles from 1997 onwards
The young crews may compete with cars that are at least 20 years old. The RAID organization therefore deliberately includes youngtimer vehicles. In extreme cases, the youngsters could therefore compete in a Mercedes-Benz A-Class or a Renault Spider from 1997.
Good experience with young drivers
Young rally participants are not a new experience for the RAID organizers. There have been special classifications for young drivers at the RAID Suisse-Paris since 2008 and last year's overall winners were actually under 30 years old. The Ladies' Cup was also won by junior classic car drivers, interestingly enough the wives of the overall winners, who took part in their own cars.
With the first event, the RAID organization wants to gain experience with the new format for the first time and see whether the new generation of classic cars can be inspired to take part. Between 40 and 70 vehicles are expected to take part. For future "RAID Young Raiders Challenge" events, it would be conceivable to start in parallel in German- and French-speaking Switzerland and thus also address French-speaking Switzerland.
With strong partners
AMAG with Volkswagen and TCS have been inspired by the RAID people for this new rally and actively support the organization, among other things with the always important breakdown service.
This is the only way to make the low initial price for the teams (from CHF 350 per person in a double room) possible. Radio NRJ will provide the acoustic promotion.
Registration and detailed information will be available shortly on the RAID website.
