It belongs in the world of concours, yet the Alfa Romeo 6C 3000 Superflow IV has never been shown at a British beauty contest. This will change on the weekend of September 2, 2017, when the one-off makes its appearance at the "Salon Privé" concours at Blenheim Palace.
The metamorphosis of the racing Alfa
The history of the show car is more than just interesting. It began with a racing car that was built in 1953 as one of eight Works-Alfa cars. A 6C 3000 CM came second in the Mille Miglia. Two of the cars were handed over to coachbuilders, and both were converted by Boano and Pininfarina for use on public roads.
Over the next few years, chassis 00128 was given four different bodies by Pininfarina. It began in 1956 with the Superflow, which was shown in Turin as a generously glazed coupé. Plexiglas was the trendy material of the time and was used not only for the front wheels, but also for the headlights and gullwing doors.
The car was modified for later appearances, resulting in the Superflow II in white paintwork with black stripes. In 1959, the car was shown at the Geneva Motor Show as the Spyder Super Sport Superflow III.
And finally, in 1960, it was converted back to its original configuration as a coupé for the Geneva Motor Show. Now the car could be used as a coupé and a Spyder.
The car was already on display at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este in 2014 and will now turn heads at Blenheim Palace. And rightly so, because this car is a design milestone.
