Emil Frey Classic Auctions will be auctioning 28 cars and two motorcycles live in Safenwil on April 26, 2025 from 13:00. On average, the vehicles are almost 47 years old, but the year of manufacture ranges from 1936 to 2018.
Ready for spring
The 30 vehicles will whet the appetite for spring - after all, nine of them are convertibles or Targa versions, and the two motorcycles from Ducati and Moto Guzzi are fair-weather means of transportation anyway.
16 cars come from the United Kingdom, seven from Germany and the remaining vehicles from four other countries. There is certainly no lack of diversity.
Even very young cars
Seven of the cars were built after 1995 and are therefore youngtimers or neoclassics. Here, too, the range is wide, from the Aston Martin Vantage V8 from 2007, to a Saab 9-3 2.0 LPT convertible from 1999, to the small-series Roos Meanie 2.0 Turbo from 2018 based on a Mini.
A Morgan Roadster from 2013 and a Jaguar XKR from 2000 are also competing among the youngsters.
Porsche ahead of Citroën and Mini
Among the brands, German manufacturer Porsche leads the field with four vehicles, including two 911s from the G era and a 356 from the 1960s.
Rare and certainly special is a Porsche 928 as a convertible, converted in the 1980s by Herbert Jurinek. The conversion work to the factory non-open 928 was extensive, the conversion cost around DM 80,000, but was also well thought out and did not restrict the possible uses for the car.
The car, which was once registered in the canton of Ticino, is now estimated to be worth CHF 50,000 to 110,000.
The Citroën range is also broad and extends from a 2 CV from 1986 to an ID 19 from 1969 and a pre-war Traction 7C from 1936.
There are actually five Minis that will be going under the hammer in Safenwil, but one of them runs under the brand name Roos Meanie and another under the original manufacturer's name Morris.
The remaining three Minis, however, date from the years 1977 to 2001 and each of these three models is something special, which is also reflected in the estimated values of between CHF 25,900 and 40,000.
An E-Type with Swiss history
On October 23, 1962, a white Jaguar E-Type from the first series was delivered by Emil Frey and remained in first ownership until 1989. The car was restored at the end of the 1990s and changed hands for the last time in 2017.
With a fully synchronized four-speed gearbox and electrically selectable Laycock de Norman-Ville overdrive as well as Weber twin carburettors, the car was gently modernized while retaining the original parts.
Now the early E-Type is to find a new owner for CHF 145,000 to 160,000.
Even more money is expected for a 1962 Aston Martin DB4 coupé converted from right-hand drive to left-hand drive. The very well-preserved example in classic gray metallic was estimated at CHF 42,000 to 480,000.
However, you can also get an interesting English car at a much lower price if you bid for the Lotus Elan Series 4, which was first registered in the UK in 1970. The car was in the care of Lotus guru Paul Matty, who is no longer active, and should now find a new owner for CHF 46,000 to 52,000 with left-hand drive and prepared for rallying.
The two Austin-Healey four- and six-cylinder models on offer will be a little more expensive than the Elan.
There will be no shortage of choice at the end of April in Safenwil. You can buy a car for as little as around CHF 5,000, but an average of CHF 61,228 per vehicle is expected.
